The works in San Vicente promoted by the PP allow to expand the square, gain space for pedestrians, create a toy library and expand the range of courses offered by the Popular University (06/05/2019)

• The plan of Fulgencio Gil solves the serious problem of access to the parking created by the terrible planning of the PSOE and saves the Lorca 90,000 € in rentals.

The Mayor of Lorca and President of the Popular Party in our city, Fulgencio Gil, has affirmed that the investment we are going to develop to improve the Plaza de San Vicente is a key step in the social, cultural and commercial revolution that we have started, and that will allow us to take advantage of the construction of new infrastructures to fill our streets, neighborhoods and places of movement.

After the years we have been working to rebuild Lorca, fighting against the effects of earthquakes, floods and economic crisis, now is the time to enjoy what Lorca have achieved together.

One of the first objectives within our plan is to continue implementing regeneration actions in our historic center, which will allow us to provide it with life throughout the day.

That is why we have decided to place a new building in San Vicente that stimulates social activity, equipped with offices in the mornings and with movement of people throughout the day, thanks to the establishment of the new facilities of the Popular University, which has around 2,000 students in their different activities.

This new location will allow an expansion of both the space that has this service and the program of courses and activities offered to all Lorca.

It is a demand that has been raised for a long time and now we have the opportunity to offer a satisfactory solution.

To underline the social dynamism, we will also establish a children's playroom on the ground floor of the building.

The investment in the Plaza de San Vicente constitutes the most outstanding urban bet of recent years in this area of the urban area, and will solve the historical and uncomfortable narrowing of the Lope Gisbert street at that height.

To do this, the 2 parking ramps of the car park will be suppressed and the access and exit will be buried.

This measure will also allow to enlarge the Plaza itself, where the pedestrian will gain space.

We are talking about an investment of 4.5 million euros.

The new building will have an area of 3,254 m2 will host the headquarters of the Popular University, a children's playroom, an attic floor for social and cultural activities, as well as the offices of Aguas de Lorca.

Access to the San Vicente car park will be buried and the exit will be changed to Corredera.

We Lorca improved the urban confluence of Lope Gisbert Street with Plaza de San Vicente, within a plan that gives way to a building with a basement for parking vehicles, ground floor, 4 intermediate floors and an attic on deck.

The spaces on the first floor of the new building will be shared between a children's playroom and the public service of Aguas de Lorca, which will also take advantage of the 1st and 2nd floors, while the 3rd and 4th floors will house the new headquarters of the Popular University .

The attic floor on deck will be configured as a multipurpose space for the use of groups of all kinds, with the development of cultural activities, citizens, presentations of tourism, commercial and leisure initiatives.

The new building will allow Lorca to save € 90,000 a year only in rentals.

The facilities that the Popular University will vacate, located in the Plaza Virgen de la Amargura, and which are municipal property, will be destined to the creation of a Youth Space in the heart of the city, remaining at the disposal of the Youth Council and Youth Associations for their use and enjoyment.

Given their size, they will open a study room that will be open according to your needs, including 24-hour service.

Among the most outstanding improvements that all citizens will be able to find is the suppression of the current accesses to the San Vicente car park, which causes so many problems for its users and, in many cases, has caused drivers to desist from using it.

The entrance and exit ramps will change so that it will be accessed through a new underground access from Lope Gisbert Street through an underground corridor that will be enabled during the construction works of the new building.

The exit will no longer be made to Lope Gisbert, eliminating the current steep slope and difficult visibility, which also invades the sidewalk.

The current exit ramp is eliminated, which makes it possible to align the sidewalks of San Vicente and Lope Gisbert.

The vehicles will start from now on Calle Corredera.

The urban improvement for the pedestrian will be more than considerable and will benefit especially the Plaza itself, which will gain in security and comfort, also allowing to eliminate the current "bottleneck" that exists in the area, a narrowing that will disappear. to the old police station, whose building was ruined and could not be readjusted because it was not built on pillars, but leaning on master walls.

A pioneering trompe l'oeil of almost 50 meters with monumental buildings

The demolition work of the old building started last Friday at 3:00 pm and they have been developed throughout the weekend, following the planned plan and with no incidents of relevance during the course of the work.

In this way the expected is that it can complete the demolition and debris in the coming days.

After that, the perimeter of the plot will be fenced, a task that includes the location of a large canvas around the perimeter.

It is a trompe l'oeil of almost 50 meters long and 3 meters high, which will reflect monumental buildings of our historical heritage.

It is a structure printed on aluminum, stamped and illustrated.

It will offer a model that we want to be imitated every time an intervention of this type is carried out in our historic center.
