30 local police receive training in Basic Life Support and DESA thanks to the courses taught by the staff of the Department of Emergencies and Civil Protection (30/05/2019)

The agents, in addition, have learned how to act in case of having to place a person in a lateral safety position or how to correctly perform the famous Heimlich maneuver to resolve choking, both in adults and children and infants

The Councilor for Emergencies of the City of Lorca, Juan Miguel Bayonas, reported this morning that this area of municipal management has trained 30 local police in Basic Life Support and DESA, a course that accredits non-health personnel in the use of defibrillators.

Juan Miguel Bayonas has indicated that "this training, given by staff of the Department of Emergencies and the Civil Protection team of Lorca, has been composed of a course of 12 hours in which 30 local police are trained in our municipality to act with the basic means and know how to use the defibrillator To obtain the accreditation the agents have had to overcome a theoretical and practical evaluation ".

The Councilor for Emergencies added that "among other issues, the staff of the Department of Public Safety have been trained, in addition to the maneuver of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of DESA, to know how to act in case of having to place a person in a lateral position of safety or how to correctly perform the famous Heimlich maneuver to resolve choking, and all these techniques have not only learned to perform them in adults but also in children and infants ".

Bayonas stressed "the importance of knowing how to function in a situation such as a cardiorespiratory arrest and knowing how to correctly perform all the steps of the survival chain until the arrival of health teams." Today is evidence that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques performed in a subject with cardiorespiratory arrest suppose increase the probability of survival by 40%, which is why the "non-health" population must become aware that knowing this technique, or other basic outreach to lay staff, provides them with some knowledge with which to be able to act correctly before a victim suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest, considerably increasing the survival of these victims, especially in the case of agents who patrol our streets daily.
