The Councilor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, and the Director of Cineclub Paradiso, Jesús Martínez, presented this morning the eighth edition of A SHORT DISTANCE, a film contest to be held on Thursday, June 13 at the Teatro Guerra and in which authors will participate exclusively Lorca as members of it.
The contest began in 2011 with a purely circumstantial intention and motivation around the emotional images that a group of young filmmakers of the municipality put to the earthquakes that had happened that tremendous year in our city.
Eight years later, the strength and strength of those filmmakers and many others that have emerged since then has led the Cineclub Paradiso unwavering to continue offering year after year a framework in which to gather, in a compilation and testimonial, all that talent that does not cease to produce cinema and make it available to its citizens in a day of meeting and celebration.
Agustín Llamas explained that "this eighth edition is the largest in participation since the start of the contest, up to twelve short films make up the final selection, which has forced the organizers to regulate the pass of the entire program in two passes, at 9:00 p.m. the first and at 10:00 p.m. the second, to provide the public with a view of all the films in the best possible conditions.In this selection 2019 we have the latest short films premiered by the "usual suspects" in A SHORT DISTANCE and veterans of the national and international shorts, Bernardo Hernández, Dany Campos, Jesús Martínez, Pedro and Juan Poveda, José Ruiz "Monty.
But above all, we would like to highlight the participation in this edition and with it its return to the program of the contest, since I am already part of the first edition with "Dios sabe", by Silvia Rey with the pass of "Wan xia, the last light of the atardecer "(finalist for the Goya awards in the category of best short documentary).
An incorporation that undoubtedly gives even more prestige to this year's edition but, above all, allows, finally, that this film can be seen in Lorca on a cinema screen and in a screening that is open to all citizens ".
The Councilor for Culture added that "all these are joined by young Lorca values ​​that have been incorporated into the field of short films throughout these years, some of which have already been protagonists in previous posters, such as Juan Bermúdez, with his recent "Incognito" or Juan Albarracín, who is premiering his latest work, "El despertar", and debutantes Cristina Fernández debuting in the selection with his first film experience, "Esponjas", fruit of his experience as a child educator, and Isabel Moreno and Jaime García who also premiered that night their first approach to the short film "Normal".
Llamas has indicated that "to complete the program, two experiences with a didactic background that corroborate the value of the cinema as a perfect channeler of the concerns and movements in which the society of our time is articulated:" Tú verás ", an internship made by the students of the cinematographic courses offered from the Popular University, under the direction of the filmmaker Benito Rabal, and "Con-fianza", a project developed by the Cazalla Intercultural Association through the European Project IMAGEIN.
The Culture Minister stressed that "it is an overwhelming program, for its quality, quantity and diversity, as an association dedicated to the promotion of cinema as a cultural phenomenon, the directors of Cineclub Paradiso surprises us, overwhelms us and, course, we are pleased and proud to attend and serve as a broadcasting screen in our city, and to round off this film-filled day with a Lorca accent, at 7:00 PM, the A SHORT DISTANCE program will offer fans of cinema and music of our region, the documentary MURCIA SUPERSÓNICA, directed by Juan Poveda, is the most complete and serious approach to the pop and rock music scene in the Region of Murcia from the eighties of the last century to the present day. regional level that had not been possible to see on the big screen in our city and with which we put the icing on a cinematographic evening and night raised to celebrate and enjoy
