IU-Lorca denounces the construction of a 2,000-seater hatchery in Doña Inés that will contaminate the aquifer (13/06/2019)

Gloria Martín, has warned of the problems of over exploitation of scarce water resources, soil contamination and liquid filtrations to the subsoil that this macrogranja will originate, in addition to the denunciation made this week by the environmental organization Naturactúa regarding the high degree of pollution and degradation of the Luchena River due to slurry spills originating in porcine macrogranjas of the Highlands of Lorca

The elected councilor of the United Left-Greens in Lorca, Gloria Martin, has denounced the start of construction of a macrocebadero for 2,000 heads of pigs in the district of Doña Inés, whose affected were informed yesterday that they have a period of ten days skillful of allegations to the license of new activity.

Martín regretted that the neighbors have not been given the opportunity to raise also allegations to the works license, which aims to verify the adequacy of the project to urban planning.

"They are given a voice with the works already advanced and with the foundation phase completed," explained Martín.

In that sense, it has demanded that the City Council clarify whether the promoter company has the corresponding works license and that, otherwise, "apply the full weight of municipal regulations against it".

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes has also warned that the exploitation, located in the Casa Don Pedro area, affects a natural source of water, from which residents of the district are supplied.

Martín has warned of the problems of overexploitation of scarce water resources, soil contamination and liquid filtrations to the subsoil that this macrogranja will originate, which is added to the complaint made this week by the environmental organization Naturactúa regarding the high degree of contamination and degradation of the Luchena River by discharges of slurry originating in macrogranjas porcine of the Highlands of Lorca.

In the case of Doña Inés, this is not the only exploitation that threatens to leave "surrounded" the hamlet by the profileración and extensions of macrogranjas, in the heat of the epidemic of swine fever in Africa and Asia.

"Some are seeing in this crisis the opportunity to continue enriching themselves at the expense of the degradation of our environment, to worsen the living conditions of those who live in the rural environment and to dry the aquifers," Martín said.

"A town of 117 inhabitants can not be besieged by exploitations of thousands of heads of pigs just because the municipal government is reluctant to change the urban regulations to give satisfaction to the livestock lobby."

In this regard, he asked that those who have in their power to support the PP in the mayor's office "do not become accomplices in the environmental disasters that are being perpetrated in Lorca and in the executioners of the neighbors who simply ask to live with dignity."

In that sense, the councilor-elect of IU-Greens warned that the battle against this "unsustainable model of production" is going to get worse because "neither the neighbors, nor the environmental organizations nor parties like ours are going to allow the greed of a few get rid of everything. "
