Lorca will host from June 28 to July 3 the XXX International Folklore Festival "City of Lorca" (25/06/2019)

This edition will be dedicated to gastronomy and will have the participation of groups from Russia, Benin, Romania, Murcia, Pulpí and the host group, Choirs and Dances of Lorca.

The Councilor for Culture, María Ángeles Mazuecos, presented this morning, together with the President of Chorus and Dances of Lorca, Antonia Martínez, the XXX International Folklore Festival "City of Lorca" to be held from June 28 to 3 July.

In this edition will participate the groups "Rejoice The Russians" of Russia, "Super Anges" of the Republic of Benin, "Doina Carpatilor" of Romania, "Choirs and Dances Francisco Salzillo de Murcia" of Murcia, the Folklore Section Live "Cuadrilla de Pulpí "and the organizing group, Coros y Danzas de Lorca.

The mayor of Culture, María Ángeles Mazuecos, has indicated that the "International Folklore Festival 'City of Lorca' reaches its XXX edition, consolidating as one of the main artistic and cultural events of the cultural program of the city of Lorca."

Mazuecos has anticipated that "as in previous editions, the festival is dedicated every year to an artisan activity related to Lorca folklore, to give a peculiar touch and highlight an important part of the idiosyncrasy of our city." This year will be dedicated to gastronomy , with the aim of filling the bars of Lorca with typical tapas of the region, and in turn, that they introduce among their offer dishes typical of the countries that visit us ".

On this occasion, the festival will be held from June 28 to July 3, including in its activities all kinds of folklore shows and performances for all audiences, an extensive program of events ranging from representations for minorities of the elderly, disabled , etc., that can not go to the traditional places of these shows, until spontaneous folklore shows in the street in which the public participates with the groups in an informal way, going through perfectly elaborated theatrical performances or performances in streets and squares that make the City these holidays a wide mosaic of cultures and traditions, workshops, gastronomic samples, conferences, exhibitions, etc.

The program will begin this Friday, June 28, with the official reception of the City Council at the Cloister de la Merced at 8:30 p.m., followed by a parade of the participating groups to Plaza de España, passing through Plaza Calderón and going up Calle Alporchones, Corredera, Calle Álamo.

The Opening Ceremony of the Plaza de España Festival at 10pm and the Opening Session of the Festival at the Plaza de España at 10:15 pm, which will include performances by the different groups.

On Saturday, June 29, the different folklore groups will visit the city of Lorca, the Embroidery Museum of Paso Blanco (MUBBLA), the Blue Museum of Holy Week (MASS).

In the afternoon, from 8:30 pm, the performances of the groups in the Parque Almenara Shopping Center.

On Sunday, June 30, participants will enjoy a day of beach in the morning, after lunch they will return to Lorca where at 21 hours there will be a gastronomic show and the welcome party at La Fortaleza del Sol.

On Monday, July 1, the group from Romania will perform at Residencia San Diego at 11:30 am and at 12:15 at Apandis.

The Russian group at 11:30 in the Caser Residence and at 12:00 in the Sastre Sunday and the group in Benin, also at 12:00 hours, in Asprodes.

In addition, in the afternoon you can enjoy the activity "Come to Dance" in the Corredera street at 7:30 p.m. and from 8:30 p.m. there will be the live folklore section with "Cuadrilla de Pulpí".

On Tuesday, July 2, the Plaza de España hosts the performance and closing ceremony of the Festival at Plaza de España from 9:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 3, the "Vivencias" conference given by Eduardo Montesinos will take place. in the Culture Classroom of Caja Murcia.

In addition, from the past, Wednesday June 19 and until July 12, you can enjoy, in the Culture Hall of Cajamurcia, the exhibition "ROOTS", organized in collaboration with the Royal Brotherhood of the Virgen de las Huertas.

In these thirty years of International Festival, folklore groups from more than seventy countries around the world and practically all the Spanish Autonomous Communities have passed through Lorca, making Lorca a place of encounter and friendship between the different cultures of the Planet.

Showing, once again to the Lorquinos, that the universal language of music and folk dances is one of the best forms of understanding among the various nations.

The "City of Lorca" belongs as a full member to CIOFF (International Committee of Organizers of Folklore Festivals), an organization belonging to UNESCO, and UNESCO official collaborator for the PCI that ensures the quality and purity of these events and that endorses, therefore, the Lorca Festival as one of the most prestigious in our region.
