The PP demands that the government stop its attacks against the transfer, listen to the farmers and not provoke "an unprecedented economic, social and labor crisis" (01/07/2019)

• The popular reject the great uncertainty that is being generated to professionals in the primary sector, and demand that the escalation of criticism against the arrival of water in our region be stopped: "nowhere is water as much as in Lorca".

The delegate councilor of Agriculture and Livestock of the Popular Group in the City of Lorca, Angel Mecca, has today transferred the deep discomfort and concern that has caused the current government of Spain to insist again on the closure of the transfer of the Tagus.

The recent declarations by the Secretary of State for the Environment, in which he affirms that they are going to increase the environmental flows of the Tagus and to modify the laws that regulate the aqueduct, constitute one more step within the plan that exists to load the transfer.

At this point, in the XXI century, we should be talking about the interconnection of watersheds, water banks and desalination as a complement, all within a National Water Pact that would put an end to the current tensions.

Instead of specifying water solutions, this country is losing time as climate change progresses.

We can not lose another minute and it must be the central government that articulates a national debate about it.

Otherwise we will lose all, especially the farmers, who are the great victims of all this.

From the Popular Party we demand the maintenance of the transfer.

Desalination is an expensive complement, as the irrigators say and environmentally unsustainable.

It is not a real alternative, and this must be known to all citizens.

The Lorca agrifood sector does not deserve the mistreatment and marginalization that has been suffering in recent times.

In the end, the only thing they will achieve if they continue like this is an ecological catastrophe due to the abandonment of agricultural, social land, because of the depopulation that it can generate and labor due to the great loss of jobs.

They will cause companies to leave Lorca and Murcia.

Now that there is talk of combating depopulation they have to reflect, be more responsible in their statements and sit down and talk with our farmers.

We consider that these criticisms and the irresponsible statements that we are witnessing in recent years by some politicians are made from an absolute ignorance and a deep ignorance of the reality of the sector.

The big losers of all this nonsense are Lorca farmers, hundreds of families who work daily to remove from the land the highest quality products in Europe.

We are talking about people who strive to make Lorca progress, and do not deserve to suffer the continuing uncertainty that is being condemned for questioning the continuity of the Tajo-Segura transfer.

The Tajo-Segura is a channel of solidarity between regions, like the thousands that exist in so many countries, but here we are falling into the most frightful ridicule, trying to wage a war between territories instead of moving forward together.

Precisely Lorca farmers can proudly say that they are the professionals in the primary sector that best take advantage of the little water we have.

Instead of being again and again questioning their work what the Ministry and the central government had to do is pay them a tribute.

The advance of Lorca and the Region of Murcia, inexcusably passes the respect for the agri-food sector.

In fact, we have to take into account that other countries look with a certain envy on what we are capable of doing with a single drop of water, and while others take us as an example from abroad, it seems that some of them have taken to demonizing the sector , sink agriculture and livestock and leave us without our historic engine of economic, social and employment generation progress.

Ángel Meca has wondered if it is that the current central government does not understand that the agriculture of our region is a guarantee for all citizens?

It is unacceptable that at this point in history the arrival of water to Lorca continues to be questioned.

It seems incredible that the only alternative to the desertification of our lands, such as the Tajo-Segura transfer, is continually put in doubt by the current heads of the socialist government of this country. "
