Human resources of the City Council and CARM work daily and in a coordinated way in the monitoring, detection and extinction of forest fires (02/07/2019)

The Councilor for Emergencies of the City of Lorca, Isabel Casalduero, has presented, this morning, the INFOMUR 2019 Plan, which sets a period of high fire danger from June 1 to September 30, establishing, for this, from the City Council of Lorca a permanent service during the time zone most likely to cause a real fire situation.

Casalduero explained that since June 15, two Civil Protection forest monitoring and detection patrols, which are part of the INFOMUR Plan Detection and Warning Group, are conducting a mobile surveillance throughout the municipality, as they are in Sierra Torrecilla, Gigante, Sierra Tercia and Sierra del Madroño and El Cambrón, and Sierra de Almenara and Carrasquilla and the littoral area of the municipality in order to cover the dark areas of visibility of the fixed posts, at the same time to deter situations that may entail forest fire danger.

In addition, the means and recourse by the Autonomous Community that are in our municipal area are added as are the fixed positions of Surveillance and Detection (El Almiréz and La Castellana) with one person per shift, the forest fire protection brigades of Zarcilla de Ramos and Lorca formed by 12 people, the fire station of the CEIS in Lorca formed by 8 people on duty, the helicopter with the heli-transported brigade based in Zarcilla de Ramos formed by 6 people and with a discharge capacity of 1200 liters, and an air surveillance aircraft for the entire region, equipped with a pilot and operator.

On the other hand, it has activated the "Brigade of Soon Help for Extinction of Forest Fires" as a unit within the Municipal Emergency Service and Civil Protection.

Currently, equipped with three vehicles of rapid intervention of 450, 500, and 800 liters, strategically distributed in the northern area of Zarcilla de Ramos, in the Guadalentín Valley area and another in the southern area of Calnegre tips adding a total of 6 people.

The total human resources used daily in the surveillance, detection and extinction of fires amounts to about 40 people.

On the other hand, work has been done on the dissemination and information by press and RRSS of preventive measures or when there is a high risk index of fires warned by the AEMET.

All these means form the immediate device of action before any forest fire that occurs in our term and that in case of need other means, both terrestrial and aerial, of other zones of the region will be incorporated.

The unit of Lorca, was the first to be created in the Region of Murcia, in 2002, and subsequently incorporated into the structure of the INFOMUR Plan within the Extinction Group, as a means to help the extinction, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the innovative doctrine of extinction applied by our emergency service, by intervening with light and very fast vehicles that shorten the response times and allow extinguishing most of the fires in their conatus phase.

Casalduero recalled that the forest wealth and the ecosystem of our municipal area is a heritage that we must conserve with all the effort required.

Currently an important part of the forests of Murcia are located in Lorca with three large cores, such as the mountain ranges from the Giant to the Culebrina, the Sierra del Madroño and the Cambrón, as well as the pre-coastal mountain range of Almenara-Carrasquilla.

We are talking about almost 90,000 hectares considered as forest area.
