Improve access to buses to IES San Juan Bosco with the aim of "guaranteeing the safety of students" (16/07/2019)

In addition, the works will be completed with an expansion of the parking spaces available in this area that are insufficient and that will be included in the Shock Plan to which the new government team committed.

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has presented, this morning, next to the Councilor for Development of the City of Lorca, Isabel Casalduero the improvements that will be undertaken in the IES San Juan Bosco, and that will benefit the educational community of this center, but also to users of the San Antonio Sports Complex.

The Mayor has indicated that "this is an old claim of the management teams of this center due to the high density of traffic in the accesses of the center in the hours of entry and exit of students, which coincide school bus transport with numerous individuals, producing situations of danger due to the lack of space for students, now the City Council, through the Department of Development and Infrastructure will act immediately to solve this problem for the start of the next course.

The objective is to "decongest traffic in the area during peak hours of entry and exit of students, thus reducing situations of danger due to the large number of students who at certain hours have to wait for buses to return to their homes".

These works will begin in the coming weeks and access will be improved with the creation of a new road that will facilitate the circulation of buses and two new parking spaces for these vehicles, as well as parking on municipal land for 12 cars.

All this will be done in two phases: the first one immediately to solve the main problem of road safety, and later undertake a second phase of a large parking area, whose entry will be from the C / Alfarería and from C / Francisco de Goya

The mayor added that "just as we committed ourselves, we are going to implement a crash plan with which to alleviate the parking deficit that exists in our city and that we will expand as much as possible."

For its part, the director of the IES San Juan Bosco, Maria del Carmen Rodriguez has referred to "traffic problems that are created at certain times, when there are up to 14 buses that bring students, plus parents in private cars that They leave their children at the door and the residents of La Viña who drive through the underpass to exit the highway. "

Rodriguez has spoken of "a true black point of the traffic", and has recognized that "these improvements will help to avoid problems, it was a concern of the whole community: teachers, parents and students".

Mateos Molina recalled that this educational center, located in the Lorca neighborhood of San Antonio, began offering education as an Institute of Vocational Training, an offer that would be supplemented by Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate and that each year has been enrolled in a greater number of students throughout the municipality, many districts, but also bordering localities.

At present, it welcomes some 1,500 students in its classrooms.
