Some actions that respond to the demands that the residents of this area have been making for years and that will solve the problems of dust and insecurity generated, above all, due to the lack of asphalting and the lack of lighting.
The Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, accompanied by the Councilor for Development and Infrastructure, Isabel Casalduero, announced this morning the work of adaptation and expansion to be made in the parking lot on the road Marín, as well as two other sites near the Camino del Gato, in front of the National Police Station.
Mateos stressed that "with these actions will be able to adapt around 1,000 parking spaces, which taking into account the deficit of parking areas for vehicles that we have in our city, is undoubtedly good news. We will gradually implement more initiatives with the aim of recovering the parking spaces that have been destroyed in recent years with urban renewal works that have been carried out. done without the neighbors and that, without doubt, are the main affected and interested. "
To do this, the City of Lorca has reached an agreement of temporary assignment with the owners of the land for use while not developing this urban sector.
A gesture that the Mayor thanked and recalled that "currently, they are using two private sites that are the roads Marín and Gato, lots that largely solve the problem of lack of parking, but are not suitable , so they cause problems of dust and insecurity at night because they are not illuminated and now they will be conditioned. "
Specifically, in the parking lot of Camino Marín, of 16,000 m2, the ground will be leveled with a contribution of artificial gravel and gravel will be spread over the entire surface.
In addition, the surface will be illuminated with six projectors.
It is estimated that the result will be about 700 parking spaces and the budget of about € 5,500 (VAT included).
On the other hand, the two lots on the Camino del Gato, in front of the National Police Station, which also serve as a parking lot.
One of them, of 4,000 m2, will be conditioned by leveling the ground with artificial gravel and gravel on the entire surface and will be illuminated with four projectors, estimating that there will be 150 parking spaces and an estimated investment amounting to € 3,700.
And, if necessary, the second site will be conditioned, of about 3,000 m2, and where there would be another 130 parking spaces.
Diego José Mateos explained that "during the next months these works will be carried out so that they are up and running as soon as possible, preferably next September, with the return to normal of all these services".
This is a decision taken in response to requests from neighbors and users of this area of ​​Camino Marín and Camino del Gato, "in which, we recall, a large number of services are currently located, such as the Commissary, a daycare center , the Medical Center of Sutullena or the School of Music it is necessary to expand and adapt the existing parking spaces, "said Mateos.
