IU-Verdes Lorca regrets that the district libraries will continue to open only nine hours a week (16/08/2019)

Gloria Martín, has requested sensitivity to the PSOE that, in its opposition stage, shared with IU the need to recover the schedule prior to 2013, when service was provided for 16 hours a week.

It also asks for the opening of a new library with study room in the area of La Viña and San José

The councilor of the United Left-Greens in Lorca, Gloria Martín, has lamented that the municipal government team has not extended the opening hours of the municipal libraries that, for neighborhoods and districts, will continue to be three hours for three days a week at least until September 2020.

Martín also showed his disappointment that the new contract of complementary and auxiliary services for the operation of the municipal network of libraries of Lorca, with a base budget allocation of 55,652.06 euros, improved by just 2,680 euros that formalized in 2018 by then municipal government of the PP.

The mayor of IU explained that the extension of library hours is a historical demand for her training, which has been claimed in different municipal plenary sessions where she has always had the support of the PSOE when she was in the opposition.

Also when in 2013 the libraries of the rural areas of Lorca went from opening 16 hours a week to nine, leaving the population without service on Mondays and Fridays.

Martín recalled that two years ago users of the La Paca library collected signatures to request more opening hours from the City Council, which was ignored by the PP so "we expect the PSOE to show more sensitivity to this neighborhood demand."

The municipal network of libraries and reading centers includes the districts of Almendricos, Purias, Cazalla, Marchena, La Hoya, Tercia, La Paca and Zarcilla de Ramos and are managed by a Murcian company that, according to Martín "is not characterized precisely by paying good wages to their workers. "

For this reason, Gloria Martín has requested the necessary budgetary improvements so that the districts will return, at least, to the time before 2013. "We believe that with a small effort we can contribute to providing cultural services to our peoples, who suffer important lacks in this and other matters. "

Finally, the councilwoman of IU-Verdes has also put on the table the need to create, at least, a new library with study room in the area of La Viña and San José to prevent young people from these neighborhoods have You have to travel to the city center to make use of this important service.
