Groups from Italy, Senegal, Ukraine and Lorca will participate in the XXX International Festival of Folklore "Virgen de las Huertas" from September 6 to 8 (27/08/2019)

The events will begin on Friday, September 6, at 11 am, with the parade of the groups from the Visitor Center to the Guevara Palace passing through Cava Street, Plaza de España, Alamo Street, Corredera, Alporchones and López Gisbert.

The Councilor for Culture of the City of Lorca, María Ángeles Mazuecos has presented this morning, together with María Romera, president of Choirs and Dances Virgen de las Huertas and Luis González, vice president of the Lorca group, the XXX edition of the International Festival of Folklore 'Virgen de las Huertas' which will take place from September 6 to 8 in the city.

The Councilor for Culture stressed that "the International Festival of Folklore Virgen de las Huertas celebrates 30 years being currently part of the festive-cultural heritage of Lorca. A trajectory that has allowed Lorca and Lorca to know the folklore of many corners of the world as set on the scene of values, customs, rites, legends and social manifestations. "

Mazuecos has detailed that "in this 30th edition will participate groups from Italy (Sbandieratori Leone Ranpante di Cori), Ukraine (Group Folk Yunist Podillya) and the host group, Choirs and Dances Virgin of the Huertas de Lorca, which will make Lorca once again become the capital of Folklore, welcoming these countries that will put color and joy in the streets of our city, bearing the flag of tolerance, diversity and cultures of the world. "

The mayor has indicated that "the events will begin on Friday, September 6, at 11 am, with the parade of the participating groups from the Visitor Center to the Guevara Palace through Cava Street, Plaza de España, Alamo Street, Corredera , Alporchones and López Gisbert. Around 12 hours the reception will take place at the Guevara Palace to the participating groups and, on the same day, at 21:30 the inaugural session of the Festival will be held at the Plaza Rey Sabio " .

Mazuecos Moreno has indicated that "for Saturday, September 7, a tourist visit to the city is planned from 10 am and 9 pm at the activity 'Folklore at Street Level' in the Plaza Rey Sabio and in the Alameda Virgen de Las Huertas. And on Sunday, September 8, at 9:00 p.m., the Jota will be held at Santa María la Real de las Huertas in the Plaza Rey Sabio and then the closing of the FIF 'Virgen de las Huertas' ".

The councilor has congratulated the group Choirs and Dances Virgen de las Huertas de Lorca for the organization of this festival that "what was once an initiative, today is a cultural event of important socio-cultural content in our city, is a mechanism of dissemination of both our rich cultural, musical and folk heritage of the world making possible the rapprochement of the people with our city. "

For their part, since the organization of the festival they have affirmed that "thanks to the collaboration of the City of Lorca and the Festifolk Spain circuit it is possible that year after year Lorca will host a Folklore Festival coinciding with the Patron Saint Festivities of the city and providing its programming with different activities, parades, performances in squares, tourist visits, galas of the festival and the photographic contest ".

V Photography Contest

In addition, between September 6 and 8, the photo contest of the International Folklore Festival will also be held, which this year celebrates its fifth edition, making the viewer participate in a different way, on the one hand, enjoying the show and on the other immortalizing the most attractive and beautiful moments that during these three days meet in our city.

The winning photograph will serve as a poster for the festival of the following year, recognizing in this way the work that the numerous participants carry out year after year, as is the case with the poster announcing this edition of the festival by the photographer from Lorca, María José Ruiz, winner of the contest Photo of last year.
