The City of Lorca shows its condolences for the death of the historian from Lorca, Rosalía Sala Vallejo (29/08/2019)

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, has lamented the death, this morning, at 88 years of age, of the historian and writer of Lorca, Rosalía Sala Vallejo.

The mayor stressed that "Rosalía Sala Vallejo was always ahead of her time and the reality of her sex, making women visible. She fought for her rights, something that was recognized by the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca (FOML) seven years when they decided to give their name to their literary contest. "

Mateos recalled that Sala Vallejo was a graduate in Philosophy and Letters from the Complutense University of Madrid, later specialized in Geography and History and for 35 years was a professor at the José Ibáñez Martín de Lorca Institute.

"

Also throughout his career he made an important work of dissemination of the history of women in Lorca through multiple historical research works.

Sala Vallejo was also councilor and deputy mayor in charge of Social Welfare of the City of Lorca.

She was a preacher in 2015, of the Feasts of San Clemente, of the Holy Week in Lorca in 2004 and of the celebrations of the Counselor in 2007, a Lorcan district with a special affection.

In 2013, he received the 'March 8 Award' from the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca.

Mateos has advanced that "from the Consororio lorquino it is being studied to carry out a recognition of the figure of Rosalía Sala Vallejo".

The funeral is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, August 30, at 5:00 p.m. in the Lázaro Soto de Lorca Chapel.
