The Popular Party proposes that Lorca attend the WiFi4EU program to install free Wi-Fi access in the social neighborhoods and neighborhoods (11/09/2019)

• Thanks to the PP initiative, an aid of 15,000 euros was obtained last May, which now Lorca have the opportunity to double if the appropriate mechanisms are established.

The Councilor of the Popular Party in the City of Lorca, Juan Francisco Martínez, has proposed that the City Council request the subsidy of the WiFi4EU program that would cover the costs of the equipment and the installation of free Wi-Fi access points in Lorca public life centers In particular, we consider it appropriate to be installed in the social premises of the districts, with the aim of continuing to provide new services to the Lorca who reside in them both in local neighborhood associations as well as groups of women and the elderly.

Martínez Carrasco explained that the WiFi4EU program will open its next call on September 19 at 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. the next day, so that municipalities and associations formed by several municipalities apply for grants.

More than 1,700 grants of 15,000 euros will be granted that allow the installation of free Wi-Fi access points in public spaces.

The aid can also be used to update old material and replace it with the latest equipment available in the market.

In addition, the € 15,000 grant can also be used to partially finance a higher value project.

It should be explained that the beneficiaries will be selected in order of arrival, while ensuring that all member states can benefit from a minimum amount of aid.

Last May the second call of WiFi4EU was resolved with more than 3,400 municipalities receiving the aid of 15,000 euros, from which Lorca could already benefit thanks to the Popular Party initiative in front of the City Council, and we can anticipate that before By the end of 2020, the launch of a fourth call is planned.

The program awards a total of 9,000 grants of 15,000 euros.

In the first call, launched in 2018, 2,800 municipalities were beneficiaries, 224 of them Spanish.

To the 3,400 grants awarded in the second call, the remaining 2,800 will be added in the two remaining calls, 1,780 of these grants will be distributed in this third call.
