IU: "In seven years of PP and PSOE governments they have done nothing to mitigate the effects of extreme weather in the fields of Lorca and the Region" (17/09/2019)

IU supports the declaration of "catastrophic zone" for Lorca, but warns that this is not a "punishment of the gods", but the consequence of the hand of man both in climate change and in poor urban planning and in poor management of the territory and infrastructure

The IU-V spokesman in the City of Lorca, Pedro Sosa, appeared this morning before the media to explain the position of his group in the extraordinary plenary held today, with the aim of demanding from the City Council Lorca the declaration of catastrophic zone for our municipality after the effects of the last of DANA in the fields of Lorca.

Sosa recalled that there are politicians in Lorca, in the Region of Murcia, and in state institutions with very direct powers in the field of water - as is the case of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) -, which should assume part of the costs of that "catastrophic zone" declaration.

They and their decisions on urban planning, land management, infrastructure, environment ... are directly responsible for the human and economic catastrophe generated in many municipalities in the Segura basin.

It is not a "punishment of God," added Sosa, both these episodes of extreme weather and its effects are increasingly explained by the "hand of man" and the hand of the politician planning, deciding, painting maps and floors urbanizable or building certain infrastructures and not implementing the construction of others.

The IU-V spokesman argues that since the San Wenceslao flood, in 2012, all politicians who have had government responsibilities in Lorca, in the Region of Murcia and in state institutions have failed the citizens of the Lorca camp They have been demanding avenues for lamination of avenues in Béjar, Torrecilla and Nogalte for many years, and hydrological-forestry work on the headwaters of the waterways that flow into the Lorca countryside.

No budget has been allocated and no government has implemented them, and that entails political responsibility, said Pedro Sosa, who never assumes anyone here.

Finally, the IU-V Spokesman recalled that this new meteorological episode has once again served to lose tons of fertile soil as geographers in the Region are highlighting these days, and also to verify the existence of a business mafia agricultural insumisa to the environmental norms that fill the Mediterranean with tons of plastic, with the dragging caused by the floodwaters.
