The site of the former police station is filled with dirt (17/10/2019)

Francisco Javier Martínez: "The absence of common sense in valuing this project is incomprehensible. The execution of the plan would allow us to have a Young Space, provide the Popular University with a larger headquarters, open a 24-hour study classroom and a Ludoteca, In addition to saving € 90,000 per year on rentals, suppressing the project would entail paying Hidrogea the cost of demolition and losing the 5 million euros they financed to build the new building. "

The Councilor for Historical Heritage by the Popular Party in the City of Lorca, Francisco Javier Martínez, has denounced that, more than 4 months later, Citizens and PSOE have not moved a single finger to put on the table a real alternative for social exploitation from the site of the old police station, nor for the urban improvement of the environment of the Plaza de San Vicente.

There is no alternative proposal, nor is it expected, and in the meantime the vacant lot, raising dirt and Lorca, losing a historic opportunity because of a local misgovernment that spends its time and energy in covering up the controversies and inactivity of its vice mayor, instead of caring for people.

Given the situation generated, at the meeting of the Board of Directors of Aguas de Lorca held next Monday, the PP will insist that the solution on the table is respected.

What is unpresentable and irresponsible is to destroy a project just because it has not occurred to you, which is just what Citizens and PSOE are doing.

They are unable to present a real proposal, which shows that they do not want to join the good initiatives presented by the popular group, which always put the welfare and progress of the city.

Francisco Javier Martínez has indicated that they are the "No for the No", and from there they do not leave.

Meanwhile they waste our time, trying to shore up an Cambalache government that falls apart.

All Lorca people know at this point that the PP project for the plot of the Commissary is not only the only one raised with seriousness and rigor, but is the best for the city.

The planned improvement project for the Plaza de San Vicente includes the alignment of Lope Gisbert Street and achieving easy and convenient access to the underground car park,

Destroying this project would be a mistake, so we demand that you continue, since the City Council would then have to pay Hidrogea the amount of the demolition (approximately 90,000 euros), in addition to losing the funding already closed to build the new building (on about 5 million euros), and we would also have to continue paying € 90,000 per year for the rental of the current offices of Aguas de Lorca.

It is an opportunity that we cannot miss for the good of Lorca.

From the purely social side, all entities also lose out, as is the case of the Youth Council (which was left with a large Young Space with 24-hour Study Classroom in the Plaza de la Virgen de la Amargura), as well as the Popular University, which would have to remain in its current location, losing the possibilities of expanding courses and programming that were opened with its transfer to San Vicente.

In this way, in addition, the opportunity to provide more social movement and life to the historic center is also lost, since the transfer of people through San Vicente was going to increase exponentially.

We are in time to carry out this project, which allows Lorca to have a new building with an area of 3,254 m2 that houses the headquarters of the Popular University, a children's playroom, an attic floor for social and cultural activities, as well as Administrative office.

The access to the parking of San Vicente would be buried and the exit was changed to Corredera.

We are talking about an investment of around 5 million euros to improve the confluence of Lope Gisbert Street with St. Vincent Square, within an ambitious plan that includes the improvement and change of existing access to existing parking and replacement of the building that housed the old police station of the National Police Corps, a space on which a new building with a basement for vehicle parking, ground floor, 4 intermediate floors and an attic floor on deck would be built.

Our approach is that the spaces on the first floor of the new building be divided between a children's playroom and the public service of Aguas de Lorca, which will also take advantage of the 1st and 2nd floors, while the 3rd and 4th floors were reserved for the New headquarters of the Popular University.

The attic floor on deck was configured as a multipurpose space for the use of groups of all kinds, with a view to the development of cultural, citizen activities, presentations of tourist, commercial and leisure initiatives.

This project also contemplates that the facilities that the Popular University will leave free, located in the Virgen de la Amargura Square, and that are municipal property, were destined to the creation of a Young Space in the heart of the city, being disposition of the Youth and Youth Associations Council for its use and enjoyment, and, given its dimensions, they would also allow to open an open classroom for students that will be open according to their needs, including 24-hour service if necessary.

The operation entailed the urban reorganization of this area of the urban area to offer a definitive solution to two substantial problems that suffer from the confluence of the Plaza de San Vicente with Lope Gisbert Street, in addition to solving the serious access problems that presents the public parking of San Vicente.
