The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Tourism of the City of Lorca, Francisco Morales, has led the tourism team of Lorca that has moved to Palencia to participate in the Third Meeting of the working group of managers of "Intelligent Tourist Destinations" that has been held in that city.

The DTI Network was established on February 27, 2019 and is chaired by the Secretary of State for Tourism, in order to contribute to the improvement of the competitiveness of Spanish tourist destinations from the perspective of sustainability and accessibility.

The municipality of Lorca, through the Department of Tourism and with the collaboration of the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia (ITREM), has been included in the aforementioned Network after the Benidorm Congress that was held last October, Palencia being the first meeting in which our municipality participates as a member of it.

The objective of the Intelligent Tourist Destinations project, a pioneer at an international level, which currently consists of 73 tourist destinations of all the Autonomous Communities, is to implement a new model for improving competitiveness and tourism development based on the use of new cutting-edge technologies ;

guaranteeing the sustainable development of the tourist territory;

promoting universal accessibility;

facilitating the interaction and integration of the visitor with the environment and increases the quality of their experience in the destination, as well as improving the quality of life of the residents.

Francisco Morales explains that "this Network aims at excellence. It is a new way of managing the tourist destination that allows us to improve, since it allows us to know what the tourists' concerns are and what they are looking for, in order to offer it to them."

Other benefits include increased competitiveness, thanks to the better use of its tourism resources and the identification and creation of others;

the improvement in the efficiency of the production and marketing processes;

as well as the impulse to the sustainable development of the destination in its three aspects: environmental, economic and socio-cultural.

The mayor of tourism has explained that "turning the Region of Murcia into an 'Intelligent Tourist Destination' is one of the main challenges that the ITREM marked for the year 2019, and Lorca was chosen as a pilot municipality for it. The transformation digital tourism sector is already a reality and Lorca will adapt its offer to gain competitiveness and positioning in the tourism sector compared to other destinations. "
