The CARM rewards afforestation project in the castle developed by the Shining Path group "La Carrasca" in collaboration with the City (15/02/2016)

The tasks of reforestation in the popular Sierra del Caño are contemplating planting over a thousand specimens of species typical of our area, as has been the case of Aleppo pine, carob, wild olive, oleander, rockrose, mastic and palmetto.

The Councillor for the Environment in the city of Lorca, Satur Martinez reported that the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment of the CARM has, within the VIII edition of the Sustainable Development Awards, honored the work done by the afforestation project in the vicinity of the castle in our city.

It is, in particular, the Award for environmental education initiatives for citizens and consumers, an action framed within the Local Agenda 21 which aims reforestation and your profile as environmental education initiative stresses.

The mayor of Environment explained that this initiative, called "Plant a Tree for Lorca" was approved under the Local Agenda 21 project and was funded by Aguas de Lorca.

We are talking about an action that has led to the planting of more than a thousand new copies of trees and shrubs, which has mainly been around the castle as well as in other locations, as was the case of the hermitage of La health in the hamlet of La Hoya.

This is an initiative that has sought most particularly the involvement of particular school social groups and citizens, and youth.

The tasks of reforestation in the popular Sierra del Caño are contemplating planting specimens of species typical of our area, as has been the case of Aleppo pine, carob, wild olive, oleander, rockrose, mastic and palmetto.

Saturnina Martinez explained that so far in this plan have helped various social groups and organizations in our town, planted over a thousand trees, allowing the unselfish involvement of many Lorca in order to improve an important natural area and close to all as is the case of the pylons.

Thus it was determined that this environment more pleasant and attractive.

This project is designed for continuity over time in order that for several years and different actions, all people who wish to help in acting on this very visited, enjoyed and town near our area.

We must applaud the work done by the Walker Club of Lorca The Carrasca and its implication for wanting to improve natural areas in our municipality and ensuring biodiversity and sustainability of our environment.

It is recalled that in recent years have been planted in the city 9,200 new trees thanks to the involvement of various groups and the Directorate General of Environment of the CARM.
