Archaeological findings from the synagogue of Lorca star in an exhibition in the Sephardic Museum in Toledo (16/02/2016)

This is a piece of tracery flemigera plasterwork with circles and wheels bladders of fish and a lamp blown glass and applied, both parts of the fifteenth century.

The Jewish heritage discovered in the castle grounds raises interest internationally, and has been exhibited at the Alhambra, the Louvre (Paris) and the National Library.

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, next to the Government Delegate in Castilla La Mancha, Jose Julian Gregory, the Municipal People's Party spokesman in the city of Toledo, Jesús Labrador, and the mayor of Culture of the City of Lorca, Augustine Llamas, and acting director of Sefardía Museum of Toledo, Ana Carmela, they were present this morning at the opening of the exhibition of pieces from Lorca, which have been provided to this center through a contract between the Directorate General of Cultural Assets of the Autonomous Community of Murcia and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (since the Sephardic Museum is state-owned).

The Mayor explained that the parts are exposed come from the archaeological excavations carried out in the Synagogue of the old Jewish quarter of Lorca, within the grounds of the castle and part of the collection of the Municipal Archaeological Museum.

This is a fragment of flamboyant tracery plasterwork with circles and fish bladders wheels dating from the second half of the fifteenth century, next to a blown glass lamp in the air and applied (handles), also of the fifteenth century.

It destcar the Sephardic Museum is a monographic center of the well visited Jewish culture and located in a place of special importance, as is the Tránsito Synagogue Toledo.

Thus exposing these two pieces allow visitors to get an idea of ​​the Jewish heritage that treasures the city of Lorca and the enormous cultural heritage present in our city.

The mayor has emphasized that the finding and enhancement of the remains of the synagogue and the medieval Jewish quarter of Lorca has been assumed that the Sun City will become a center of interpretation of Jewish heritage in Sefarad.

We have a single synagogue that after its abandonment was not defiled and pieces of much value as they will be exposed in the Sephardic Museum of Toledo.

In recent years the City Council, with the support of different administrations and groups, has developed various promotional activities, as has been the case of the traveling exhibition "Traces of Jewish Culture in Lorca" Lorca setting out the findings, life medieval, the effects of the Jewish diaspora and the impact of this discovery to the Sun City. for this exhibition attended Córdoba, Ávila and in this same museum, totaling more than 70,000 visits.
