Lorca and Lucena close a tourism and cultural exchange around its Jewish past (26/05/2016)

The Councillor of Tourism of the City of Lorca, Francisco Montiel, visited on Tuesday May 24 Cordoba Lucena City by the mayor and the mayor of Tourism of the town, Juan Perez and Manuel Lara, respectively.

In this institutional meeting, Montiel had the opportunity to see in situ the Castillo del Moral, the Jewish Necropolis, the Palace of the Counts of Santa Ana and the House of Mora, essential elements of the Jewish past of Lucena.

They also visited some of the establishments in Lucena are certified RASGO as was the case Sephardim tasting sweets Confectionery Canadas Centennial.

Francisco Montiel has stressed that it is the first visit by Lorca to present their project in the Jewish area since from the Consistory Lorca want we join the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain, counting with the support of the Cordovan municipality.

For this reason, and to reinforce the inclusion, both municipalities have agreed to exchange various activities with Jewish themes.

The Councillor of Tourism has indicated that in the framework of the European Day of Jewish Culture, to be held in September, the two cities have reached the agreement to carry out various acts of this subject.

In the case of our city we cede the exhibition "Traces of Jewish Culture" currently insatalada in the Synagogue Fortaleza del Sol, which can be visited at the Palacio de los Condes de Santa Ana city of Lugo.

Meanwhile, Lucena, within the framework of "Lucena City Music" UNESCO project, bring Lorca Chamber Choir Eli Hoshanah "Lucena City" that will delight visitors with Lorca and Sephardic music.

It is recalled that the Jewish Synagogue of our city is a unique example of Jewish religious art in Spain and the world.

The synagogue had capacity to accommodate seated about 70 worshipers during the ritual reading of the Torah (sacred Jewish book) and, although it has own details of the Sephardic temples of the same period, has other unpublished so far in similar constructions .

Although the exact date of its construction is not known is dated in the first half of the fifteenth century (late medieval period).
