Exhibition "Miguel de Cervantes and the city of Lorca in the fourth centenary of his death" (26/05/2016)

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, will open at 20:30 hours the sample composed of 50 pieces, including paintings, ceramics, coins, medals, documents and books from the Naval Museum, Box-Mediterranean Foundation Cultural Fund include Espin, the Municipal Archives, the Archaeological Museum and the libraries of Lorca.

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, will open tomorrow, Friday, May 27, at 20:30 the temporary exhibition "Miguel de Cervantes and the city of Lorca in the fourth centenary of his death," which could be seen at Lasala of Exhibitions Temporalesdel Lorcahasta Municipal Archaeological Museum on 13 October.

The Councillor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Augustine Llamas, reported that "this exhibition is composed of 50 pieces, including paintings, ceramics, coins, medals, documents and books from the Naval Museum Cartagena, Caja Mediterranean include Espin Cultural Foundation-Fund, the Municipal Archives, the Archaeological Museum, the Municipal Libraries of Lorca and individuals ".

Coinciding with the four hundredth anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes in 2016, the Archaeological Museum of Lorca has prepared the commemorative exhibition dedicated to the author ofThe Quijote, which brings together a series of works related to Cervantes, his work and his time, from several institutions of Lorca.

The exhibition is divided into six exhibition units, Miguel de Cervantes and his work, the daily life in Lorca in times of Cervantes, Cervantes and the city of Lorca, Commemorations to Cervantes, El QuijoteyCervantes and the Battle of Lepanto.

The own building for Archaeological Museum which houses the temporary exhibition can be seen as partede exposure because quefue built between the late sixteenth century and early seventeenth century years that Cervantes wrote most of his works.

The cultural environment in the city of Lorca during the second half of the nineteenth century, made acts organized to commemorate Cervantes and published papers and articles on the work of this distinguished author in magazines and local newspapers.

In this cultural context a street was dedicated to Cervantes in 1888 and the celebrations held in Lorca on the occasion of the third anniversary of the edition of Don Quixote in 1905 were based.

With this exhibition, curated by the director of the Archaeological Museum, Andres Martinez, it has tried imbricarliteratura, history and archeology of the time when Miguel de Cervantes, Lorca linked lived.
