The Department of Health changes cigarettes carnations to raise awareness against smoking occasion of the celebration of World No Snuff Day (31/05/2016)

The campaign this year focuses on the need to respect free snuff spaces.

Smokers should know that in the spaces with smoke snuff chemicals that cause cancer as formaldehyde (used to embalm corpses) breathe, Benzene (in gasoline), Polonium (radioactive) and Vinyl Chloride (used in the preparation of pipelines).

The Councillor for Health and Consumption in the City of Lorca, Maria del Carmen Ruiz, reported on the awareness campaign that the city council develops throughout the day on the occasion of the commemoration of World No Snuff.

Ruiz Jodar has indicated that this year the Department of Health, in conjunction with the Department of Social Services, has installed an information table in the Alameda of the Constitution in order to raise awareness of the harmful effects of snuff.

For that we are distributing brochures and information about the harmful and serious effects that smoking has on the health of citizens.

As a gesture of awareness, they are giving carnations to all those who handed a cigarette to change.

The mayor of Health has indicated that within this action is being distributed informational materials between Lorca, such as Guides to quit smoking, Tour smoking, Information Non-smoking, Information for women, youth information Information for pregnant and 400 carnations are delivered in exchange for the corresponding cigarettes.

Jódar Ruiz has stated that according to the latest data, in the region of Murcia snuff consumption remains a major problem, since 28.4% of the population smokes well on a daily basis (25.6%) or occasionally (2.9%), the consumption them yet higher in men (30.5%) than women (26.3%) and higher than the national average (25.4%) in the case of women (20.5%).

Compared to previous data a downward trend in consumption of snuff is observed in the case of men, not in women in a slight increase is observed.

As for exposure to environmental smoke Snuff, the survey shows that 16.9% of people are exposed in closed places in our region.

The theme this year is "Let's turn the free spaces of snuff," under which it reports on the risks of active and passive smoking, and the need to promote free spaces snuff in different environments and to encourage aid to smoking cessation.

Other poisonous gases of these spaces are carbon monoxide (exhaust gas), hydrogen cyanide (chemical weapons), Ammonia (cleaners) and Toluene (solvent).
