The Civil Guard seizes 17 fringílidas captive birds in a home of Lorca (07/06/2016)

The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia, in the framework of the operation 'CARDUELIS', has seized a total of 17 copies of fringílidas birds (14 finches and 3 Siskins) in the town of Lorca and denounced its owner for violations law 42/207 of 13 December, the Cultural Heritage and Biodiversity and the law 7/1995, of April 21, Wildlife in the Region of Murcia, for unauthorized possession of species.

The investigation began when the Civil Guard Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) were aware of the existence, on the terrace of a building in the town of Lorca, many copies of goldfinches.

With this first information and in order to check the status of birds and their legal tenure, the Civil Guard has investigated to locate the property under investigation.

Building inspection allowed to place on the terrace of the housing block, a storage with several cages where several live Goldfinches and Siskins species kept in captivity.

The examination of the animals has led to find that lacked the corresponding identification ring.

In view of these irregularities the Civil Guard has located the owner who has been reported to the Law 42/207 of 13 December, the Cultural Heritage and Biodiversity and the Law 7/1995 of 21 April on Wildlife Murcia, for unauthorized possession of species.

For holding the goldfinch Carduelis carduelis or it is required to obtain administrative authorization for live capture and captivity for breeding destined for singing or playing.

The captured must be ringed individually.

The Carduelis spinus, commonly known as Siskin, is a fringílida bird found in the List of Wild Species under Special Protection and the Spanish Catalogue of Threatened Species, although not listed, so your possession is unauthorized.

The Civil Guard has operated the 17 specimens that have been delivered at the Center for Wildlife Recovery Valley, located in La Alberca-Murcia, available to the Directorate General of Rural and Forestry Development of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment environment of the Region of Murcia.

The capture of these species is regulated in Law 42/207 of 13 December, the Cultural Heritage and Biodiversity and the Law 7/1995, of April 21, Wildlife in the Region of Murcia, and capture and possession requires exceptional administrative authorizations.

Capture wild of these birds for training the singing is a traditional cultural practice in the Region of Murcia which, according to the applicable regulations, must be carried out under strictly controlled conditions and on a selective basis to ensure conservation species.

This requires a system of banding and authorizations issued by the Directorate General of Environment of the Autonomous Community body to which has been denounced the alleged offender, for violations of the rules on the protection of wildlife is used.

The unauthorized capture, sale, transfer and trade in the species fringílidas are strictly prohibited.
