Fifty residents of Lorca deputation of Tercia (Lorca) have concentrated on the doors of City Hall to demand that the Mayor, Francisco Jodar (PP), a modification of the General Municipal Management Plan so that residential uses are harmonized and livestock ground.

A fairly widespread problem that affects other districts as Purias Lorca, Campillo and La Hoya, and even to neighboring towns like Puerto Lumbreras.

Those affected have already gathered about a thousand signatures to put solution to a problem that threatens their well-being and is altering the social peace between neighbors and ranchers.

The straw that broke the camel is the granting of a permit by the Consistory for the expansion of a farm in the Way of the oils will increase from 200 to 1,200 heads of swine and is located just 35 meters from several homes.

Melchora Martinez is the owner of one of those buildings and has recounted the hell it means for her and her family situation.

"With 200 pigs and just can make life on the street, I do not want to imagine what can happen over a thousand," he explains.

"My grandchildren do not want to come home because the stench is unbearable, must be confined indoors because there are days when the air is unbreathable" says Tertia this neighbor of 63 years.

Ana Belen Bravo, one of the affected neighboring says it can not even hang clothes on the street because the smell of manure permeates everything.

"I can not understand that the City prioritize the interests of a farm to the detriment of the quality of life and the very health of the neighbors," he explains.

"I live surrounded by excrement and odors. This is affected us up psychologically," he laments.

Concepcion Bravo, spokesman for the Platform 'Stop feedlots next to the houses' ensures that the neighbors will not stop the struggle for the defense of their rights.

"We are united, well advised, and we feel strong to get where needed," he says Bravo adding that "we are not against farmers but we do believe that the government must properly manage to support the development of this activity the constitutional right to health and an adequate environment ".

The spokesman says this group feel disappointed withthe municipal government team.

"The mayor promised to visit us to meet our problems in the first person but neither came nor sent to municipal technicians to make the checks that we demand," he explains.

"We were told that measures would be taken before they began the redevelopment of the feedlot, but it already has raised pillars and no municipal official has taken charge of our situation," he says.

The spokesman 'Stop feedlots next to houses' has invited the mayor to exchange their houses, "we will see if it would be able to withstand all what we are going through."

"There is a struggle against farmers"

Francisco José Lucas, lawyer of the platform, explained that there is a war against neighboring farmers, but to reconcile the rights of citizens with the economic interests of this activity.

"Ideally, the government would harmonize both, otherwise prevail rights of people and that's what we will defend to where neighbors want", said the lawyer.

Lorquina support that got the European Court of Human Rights condemned Spain for failing to protect their right to privacy

A concentration also came Gregoria López Ostra, lorquina who got in 1994 the European Court of Human Rights to condemn the Spanish state for failing to protect their right to privacy, claimed unsuccessfully before the Spanish courts for the damage caused by installation, a few meters from his home, a sewage treatment plant and waste from a tanning company.

The doctrine of the judgment of Strasbourg, which should guide the Spanish courts to establish case law imposes on public authorities an obligation to protect individuals when they are affected in their rights, especially their privacy.

The Court then considered unacceptable passivity of the City of Lorca, in order to its role as an actor public guarantor of the interests of the governed.

So, he understood that the Consistory had failed to maintain "a fair balance" between the business economic interest and the right of the applicant to his private and family life.

Lopez Ostra now confident that his long struggle serve as impetus and inspiration Tertia's neighbors that want to provide full support.
