The "Grandparents Storytellers" of the Department of the Mayor conclude their social cycle with a session in the nursery Calasanz (17/06/2016)

The largest in the city have developed this project throughout the month of June in different centers such as Apandis, Eliosol and Nursery School Special Education Pilar Soubrier.

This proposal aims to highlight the contribution of our elders, using his special relationship with children, creating a particular communication between generations through reading and storytelling

Councilwoman Policy Staff of the City of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez Silvente, this morning attended a meeting of a new initiative "Grandparents Storytellers".

It is an activity by which a group of older people in our town attending different schools and kindergartens in the city to tell stories to the little ones and represent small plays with puppets.

The mayor of Mayor stressed that this project has been developed during the month of June, contemplating visits Apandis, Nursery Eliosol, College of Special Education Pilar Soubrier and Nursery Calasanz, where ends today.

This proposal aims to highlight the contribution of our elders, using his special relationship with children, creating a particular communication between generations through reading and storytelling.

The objectives of this program are to promote active aging, promote intergenerational relationships, encourage social participation through specific actions contribute to the maintenance of memory using creativity, language, visualization, story dramatization thereof, and occupy the time of our greatest blank positively and improving their self-esteem.

We also seek to facilitate exchange between elderly and other age groups, fostering a positive view of old age and aging in our society.

Mínguez Silvente explained that in this program the story has multiple uses, has actually served to achieve various purposes, such as being an intermediary to improve our relationships between children and elderly (given its playful component) and improve cognitive performance and the memory of the elderly themselves, because the stories are recounted from memory, which also favors the stimulation of creativity to capture the attention of children.

It has also helped to find an occupation that improves the mood of this group through active participation in a pleasant and useful project.

Since it will be the motivating axis to the participation of our elders in collaborating telling stories to be useful in their community contributing and sharing with the special children of Lorca, common spaces.

This activity is part of the projects of the Department of Policy Staff, with whom intend to develop projects and activities such as this, in which our elders are active participants, as one of the key objectives on which work by part of this Council is to offer our major projects in which they develop an active, direct participation, responding to a social reality, as the group of older people should not be viewed solely as a passive recipient of the action administrations, but as active sector have much to contribute, fleeing from archaic stereotypes associated with passivity and emphasis on functional dependency, rather than on their potential.
