The Mayor and President of the College of Veterinary signed an agreement that will instantly identify the missing pets (08/07/2016)

Currently, from the Department of Health has made delivery of microchips readers to the local police, Seprona (2), Civil Guard Traffic and Municipal Emergency Service, in addition to the device that has the Department itself.

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the President of the College of Veterinarians of Murcia, Fulgencio Fernández, this morning signed a collaboration agreement that will allow municipal services access Identification System Companion Animal Region Murcia (SIAMU).

The mayor explained that in practical terms, this agreement enables different government officials that have microchips reader immediately identify the owner of any pet in case of loss of the pet.

This is a major advance that accelerates that pet owners can retrieve their animals within shortest possible time.

The Mayor has indicated that according to the Municipal Ordinance tenure protection and pets, in the case of animals of the canine species identification is required by the microchip system or the other who at the time is determined.

Their owners must be provided with the Canine Health Card and enroll in the Municipal Census of Pets to meet the animal three months or one month after purchase.

Since the program's inception they have been identified by microchip 14,244 11,942 animals that remain active.

2015 Over 1095 animals have been identified and so far this year have identified 570 new animals and discharged 30.

The mayor has indicated that the SIAMU aims to identify the pet as a tool to facilitate the recovery of stray animals or stolen, avoid dropouts, promote responsible ownership, and to help achieve higher levels of health and welfare both of animals and people they interact with them.

SIAMU offers the possibility to check by entering identification number of an animal (microchip or tattoo) if an animal is registered in your data files, resulting in that case name and phone number of the person listed as the owner and the veterinarian who performed the identification.

Francisco Jodar explained that currently, from the Department of Health was handed readers microchips to the local police, Seprona (2), Civil Guard Traffic and Municipal Emergency Service, in addition to the device with which account own Department.

These readers detect implanted chips, in addition to dogs, in species such as birds, horses, ruminants (sheep and goats), cats, ferrets and goats, among others.

Francisco Jodar has reported that, in terms of race and regardless of the mongrel dogs who are the most abundant, the most numerous in our municipality are German shepherd, small breeds such as Yorkshire and Bichón and hunting dogs ( hound, greyhound and pointer).

In 2015 the number of potentially dangerous animals counted was 369, corresponding to 3.2% of the total census, being American Staffordshire Terrier breed the largest.

In 2015 they have registered 57 new animals.

Over 2015 they have been granted 36 licenses for possession of potentially dangerous animals, the rest of files being processed.

So far in 2016 and they have been granted 42 new licenses.
