The City Council signed a collaboration agreement with the Autonomous Community to strengthen the protection and comprehensive assistance to victims of domestic violence through the Civil Protection GAPS (29/07/2016)

The main objective of this agreement is to join efforts to effectively protect both women and their children, victims of domestic violence.

In this sense, the City Council will select and train about 25 professionals who will help in this important work.

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar Alonso has signed this morning a collaboration agreement with Violante Thomas, Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities of the Regional Government, which will strengthen the protection and comprehensive assistance to victims of gender violence in the Group municipality through the Psychological Care and Social (GAPS) Civil Protection Lorca.

It should be noted that Convention will last for 24 months.

Jodar Alonso said that "one of the great scourges affecting our society is now gender-based violence. We must always express our abhorrence towards those miserable people who use violence within the home, causing tragic and dramatic situations. There to move from society collectively towards the eradication of domestic violence, using whatever resources are necessary. in this respect, our priority is the collaboration between different public administrations in order to join efforts and improve our attention to the victims".

The mayor explained that "the main objective of this Convention is to coordinate optimally our collaboration and develop joint actions between municipality and autonomous region through the Group Psychological Care and Social Civil Protection, a group with extensive experience in prevention and emergency care. "

As indicated Jodar, "to give effect to the provisions of the Convention, the volunteer staff GAPS receive specialized as protocols for action in cases of abuse by gender violence, also including attention to child abuse training. In addition, will implement the relevant coordination mechanisms between the device Telephone Assistance for Battered Women 112, the GAPS, the municipal care team gender violence city Council and the Planning and Prevention Programs Directorate General of Women . on the other hand communication protocols for referral they are established from the 112 and the frequency of meetings aimed at coordinating tasks. "

One of the main measures envisaged in this agreement is the implementation by the City of psychological services, social assistance and support in the town for both battered women and their children.

As reported by the mayor, "to respond to these important attentions, the City Council to a maximum of 25 professionals of psychology, social work or emergency care, which will be trained and will offer the service at will be selected Weekend".
