Lorca City Council launches the summer campaign pest control and prevention of Legionnaires' disease in the 34 schools in the municipality (18/08/2016)

From the Department of Health also it acts in physical spaces such as watercourses;

in other municipal agency buildings such as kindergartens, network of shelters, medical and local neighborhood associations or social centers offices;

as well as in municipal parks, squares, parks and gardens.

The Councillor for Health of the City of Lorca, Mari Carmen Ruiz Jodar, reported this morning pest control campaign that launches the Consistory Lorca every summer.

Within this program the 34 public and private schools of the municipality will be bugged and desratizados during the last week of August and first week of September so that everything is ready when children return to school on September 9.

Mari Carmen Ruiz explained that the provision of pest control is carried out on schedule and so that at no point endangers the health of people or cause discomfort or disturbance in the functioning of schools.

For this reason the controls coincide with the summer holidays, Easter and Christmas.

The mayor of Health has indicated that the City of Lorca has hired a company that manages Integral Service DDD (Disinfection-Pest-Rodent control) and effective control of pigeons (Columba livia var) throughout the municipality.

Species control objects vector control are rodents (rats, mice ...), insects (cockroaches, mosquitoes, fleas ...), other arthropods (ticks, mites ...), pigeons and pathogenic microorganisms;

that under certain conditions may pose a risk to public health and / or economic loss or deterioration of public assets and quality of life in the municipality in general.

Ruiz Jodar has indicated that this pest control service also extends to the entire municipality of Lorca, especially considering the following physical spaces: Waterways and chafing;

It comprising underground sewerage network length 320.000m, 6,125 manholes, approximately 1,000 scuppers and 2,000 residential connections, lighting, with about 2,500 manholes and traffic light network, with approximately 1,000 manholes;

besides solar landfills;

Municipal agency buildings, including municipal kindergartens and primary schools early childhood education and municipal shelters network, 23 local doctors and clinics neighborhood associations or social centers;

as well as municipal parks, squares, parks and gardens

The Councillor for Health has explained that the pest control program includes the following actions:

- Pigeon control works with eight points capture in town and villages.

(So ​​far this year 172 have been served notices of citizens mainly by cockroaches and roedeores, followed by fleas and ticks).

- Care of incidents related to pests detected in homes of families without financial resources or other social problems that have the mandatory municipal report thereon and / or those incidents by technical report can be a problem community health whether in the public and private sectors.

Mari Carmen Ruiz, on the other hand, has indicated that deposits and sanitary water networks of schools are considered less likely facilities proliferation and spread of Legionella according to Royal Decree 865/2003, of 4 July, by which health and hygiene criteria for the prevention and control of legionellosis.

The mayor of Health has said that however, from the preventive point of view, to all facilities that use water in their operation, produce aerosols and are located in open and public use areas, and may be susceptible to become foci spread of the disease, they should apply the control and maintenance tasks referred to in that legislation, mandatory.

Ruiz Jodar has stressed that is why the city of Lorca has hired a company for sanitary hygienic maintenance of these facilities, making cleaning and disinfecting before starting the school year, coinciding with pest control, and the collection of samples for Legionella pneumophila.
