Community and City Council collaborate in sustainable and efficient reconstruction of Lorca and invest 1.7 million euros (04/10/2016)

The measures envisaged include the use of LED lights in street lighting or improvements in the cooling systems of municipal buildings

The Minister of Economic Development and the Mayor of Lorca signed another agreement by which the municipality adheres to the Acceleration Unit Investment Promotion Institute

The Community and the City of Lorca collaborate on the implementation of a series of energy efficiency measures and smart solutions to run a sustainable and efficient reconstruction of the town and move towards the concept of 'smart city'.

These actions are part of the Elena-Fuensanta (European Local Energy Assistance) European project, and implemented through the Institute of Development in the Region (Info) and the city of Lorca signed an agreement, which is part of the project of repair and reconstruction public spaces and infrastructure, funded by the regional government with funds from the European Investment Bank.

The Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment, Juan Hernandez, signed today with the local mayor, Francisco Jodar, the agreement to perform an energy audit and called it "an example of collaboration between administrations will be an important economic savings for the town and reflects the commitment of the Community to combating climate change.

Thus, the info will develop an energy audit of several areas of the municipality in order to optimize public resources and become more efficient, "which will result in a cost savings that directly benefit the citizens of Lorca way," he said adviser.

Specifically, an audit will be performed in six districts of the city (of Calvary and San Pedro, Santa Maria and San Juan, San Cristóbal and Calle Avellaneda, Avenida Juan Carlos I and adjacent spaces; the Santa Quiteria and Virgen de las Huertas neighborhood) to identify the most efficient measures adjusted to renovation projects of infrastructure in these areas.

Among the activities planned is the passage of nearly 2,000 points of public lighting, a move that would mean a close to 1.5 million euros investment LED technology.

It also foresees improvements in refrigeration systems, enclosures and insulation and lighting installations five municipal buildings (sports complex Felipe VI; school and Primary Education San Fernando, Town Hall, CLD and the area of ​​the City Planning ), which would require an investment of 252,000 euros.

Improvements in lighting and municipal facilities would result in annual savings of 200,000 euros for municipal coffers, and avoid the emission of more than 300 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, equivalent to keep in Lorca a forest an area of ​​15 football fields.

In this sense, thanks to Elena-Fuensanta program, municipalities in the region have launched a total of 21 projects with an investment of 12.1 million euros to become more efficient and sustainable, which have prevented the emission of 2,968 tons of CO2, equivalent to the emissions of 1,687 cars on the roads of the region throughout the year.

Agreement to accelerate investment in the municipality

Similarly, both administrations will collaborate in the search for new investment and momentum that are in the municipality.

Currently, in the municipality there are five major investment projects open involving an investment of about 550 million euros and creating more than 300 jobs.
