The Councilor of IU-Greens in the City of Lorca, Adoración Peñas, has appeared this morning before the media to address the shortcomings of a recent restoration in the Palace of Guevara de Lorca, one of the most unique and emblematic properties of heritage Historical, artistic and cultural of Lorca.

The mayor of IU-V has stated that this building, declared in 2008 of Cultural Interest with the category of monument, is, as outlined in the decree of its declaration, "one of the most outstanding examples of the civil baroque of the Raise Spanish ".

This cataloging contrasts, says the councilor, with the quality and effectiveness of the restorations to which the building has been subjected in recent years.

In the middle of last century XX was realized on the facade a first intervention that wanted to tackle the problems of humidity of the building, replacing part of the base of the building by a stone less porous than the original one.

It was a good intervention that contrasts with the last two.

Almost two decades ago the façade was subjected to a second intervention.

But it is the last of the restorations, just two years ago, that motivates the press conference this morning and the one that will be the object of the political initiatives that IU-V intends to raise immediately.

Adoración Peñas affirms that two years ago, within the Director Plan of Restoration of Historic Heritage of Lorca, after the earthquakes of 2011, the company Ferrovial in UTE with another company was awarded the restoration of the Palace of Guevara with a budget of more than 587,000 € .

Today, two years later, this important façade presents pathologies such as the alveolization of the stone, and the accelerated sandblasting of the same as a consequence of the humidity that, in sight, were not approached properly in the process of restoration of the building.

This is a last intervention that is manifestly improveable, says the mayor of IU-V, which is affecting significant elements of the ornamental iconography of the lower part of the facade.

Peñas has asked rhetorically if the municipal government of Lorca is aware of this deterioration, and whether there has been - or not - a public technical supervision after the restoration work.

He pointed out that both the Department of Culture and the one responsible for the revitalization of the historic center of Lorca should have noticed the deficiencies of this restoration, has also denounced that these councils are endowed with exceptional staff in areas such as music, theater , Plastic arts, archeology, etc., but it does not make sense that a City Hall like that of Lorca, with the monumental wealth that it possesses, does not have specialized personnel dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of the historical heritage.

Finally, the mayor of IU-V has announced that the next plenary will present an initiative urging the City Council to look at the facade, see the problem and demand responsibility to a company that has taken almost 600,000 euros for a job that leaves a lot To be desired and on which case the case should be demanded at his expense a repair.
