The National Police fight against labor exploitation in Lorca in the agro-food sector (21/11/2016)

Agents of the National Police in collaboration with Labor Inspection and Social Security in the Region of Murcia have carried out three inspections carried out in labor centers in the municipality of Lorca to combat labor situations where they may be violating the rights of foreign workers , Resulting in the arrest of a person as alleged perpetrator of an offense against the rights of workers.

The investigations began a few months ago, following the complaint of one of the workers, stating that they had been working illegally for the agri-food sector and, after suffering an accident at work, the employer did not take over and Ceased in his job.

After this, and within the functions entrusted to the local brigade of Aliens and Borders of the Lorca Police Station, several companies were inspected, in collaboration with the Provincial Inspectorate of Labor and Social Security.

In the first of these companies was detected the presence of three people, women in regular situation, but lacking a labor contract.

It is also worth noting the employer's refusal to facilitate the passage to the police and labor inspection, alerting the workers and being intercepted when they left their job, jumping the perimeter of the work center closure.

The businessman was arrested for an alleged crime against the rights of workers.

Randomly, two other companies from the agri-food sector were inspected, one of them with 140 foreign workers, all of them with residence and work permits and with a labor contract.

The third of the companies inspected, with only seven workers, all lacked a labor contract.

For all of them the pertinent procedures have been carried out and the judicial authority and the actions resulting from the inspections have been reported.
