IU-Verdes asks to end the "Third World" situations that occur in the southern districts of Lorca (29/11/2016)

Ramblas in a calamitous situation that put at risk the safety of people, accumulation of waste from uncontrolled agricultural activity, pollution of the seabed, substandard housing and labor exploitation are some of the complaints made by the councilor of this training, Gloria Martín

The councilor of Lorca United Left-Greens, Gloria Martín, has denounced the state of "desidia" and "dangerousness" in which many of the existing ramblas in the municipality.

Martin referred expressly to the Rambla de Los Currucales, next to the district of El Morrón, in the place known as Las Librilleras, in the deputation of Ramonete.

There live more than a hundred people, including a large number of children and elderly people with reduced mobility.

Neighbors report that in a situation of normal rainfall it is already "very complicated" to be able to leave or access the neighborhood by car, since the course of the rambla is the only option available for road traffic and is in a painful state.

It is a declared area of significant risk of flooding by the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, which is aggravated by the accumulation of waste from agricultural activity, which makes it a danger spot in the event of torrential rains.

Martin recalled that the rambla is near the place where, in 2000, a 27-year-old woman and her two-year-old son died, dragged by a torrent of water, mud and stones that plunged into the sea through one of the arms of The rambla of Ramonete, where it ends the one of the Currucales.

In addition to depriving Lorca, for two months, of the early warning system against potential floods, those responsible for the basin organization "maintain many of the channels that run through our municipality in a calamitous situation that puts at risk the safety of people "Said Martin.

Therefore, it urged the CHS to its immediate sanitation before the "most obvious risk" that supposes "this intolerable lack of conservation".

At the time, the mayor of IU-Greens demanded that the City Council endow this enclave with a "safe and decent" road, resorting, if necessary, to the path of expropriation.

The polluter who pays

Gloria Martín also asked that the companies that originate the agricultural residues that accumulate in ramblas and public channels "begin to pay for the terrible environmental damage that they are causing".

In that sense, he recalled that the regional park of Marina de Cope is the most contaminated by garbage on the coast of Murcia, among other reasons, due to the accumulation of plastic from uncontrolled agricultural activity.

The councilor of IU-Greens said that their training is not against agriculture but for those "irresponsible businessmen" who "shear natural resources to turn our coast into a dunghill."

Therefore, he urged the municipal government team of PP to work on the implementation of a plan of management of agricultural resources, charged by those who produce them, to facilitate compliance with current legislation and conservation of the environment.

Martín showed a series of photographs taken in the deputation of Ramonete that draw "a landscape typical of a developing country that saddens us, disgusts us and shames us equally."

In this regard, it was asked how it is possible to invest in "millionaire megalomaniac projects of doubtful economic profitability and little public utility" when, a little more than thirty kilometers from its urban center, Lorca offers a "filthy" image and there are parts of the territory "absolutely abandoned ".

Infraviviendas and labor exploitation

Gloria Martín also alluded to an "extremely delicate" situation that her training will bring to the attention of the municipal government team and non-governmental organizations "in an exercise of responsibility to prevent negative repercussions for their victims."

This is the construction of illegal housing for rent to agricultural workers of foreign origin and the occupation of houses in poor condition, without supplies of light and water, by people working in the countryside under pseudo-slavery.

"In Izquierda Unida - Verdes, we are sensitive to the situation of these workers," Martín said, "and we believe that the measures to be taken are to persecute and punish those who are profligate through labor exploitation."

That is, for these workers demand "a humanitarian action in collaboration with NGOs committed to their situation."

For the mayor, it is a "sad reality" to which the PP can not turn away and must be faced "with courage" to end a scourge that is "a scam" for public coffers, "darkens the Good work of many honest agricultural entrepreneurs "and, above all," takes advantage of the hunger and misfortune of human beings.
