Work begins on renovating Los Angeles and Apolonia de Lorca neighborhoods to promote mobility and accessibility (23/12/2016)

The action will also give priority to the integral regeneration of public spaces and to the improvement of drainage and collection of rainwater

The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Pedro Rivera, and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, attended today the beginning of works of urban renewal of the neighborhoods of Los Angeles and Apolonia de Lorca, which will promote mobility, accessibility and its interconnection To other spaces to promote the urban rehabilitation of these neighborhoods.

This action has a budget of 3.8 million euros.

Pedro Rivera stressed today that "the renovation of Los Angeles and Apolonia is a key action in the construction of the new Lorca, since it sits at the traditional entrance to the city on the east through the main artery Avenue of the Armed Forces And connects with the heart of the municipality. "

The urban renewal, promoted and implemented by the Ministry of Development, will give a boost to the economic sector of construction and employment generation ", an objective that adds to the" clear commitment of the regional government for the rehabilitation of residential areas of Lorca With the aim of improving the quality of life of its citizens ".

The councilor and the mayor, accompanied by neighbors, performed a symbolic act of commencement of works with a ribbon cut that caused the release of balloons that represents the kickoff of the performance, which will have a term of execution of 12 months.

They also visited the craft workshops, gardening, Christmas motifs and pastries that have been developed throughout the morning in the neighborhood.

Works

The Los Angeles and Apolonia districts will involve the construction of pedestrian ramps and stairways to correct the different levels that exist in the current design of the neighborhood and promote the pedestrian crossing between this neighborhood and the university campus.

Two of the ramps will facilitate the passage of neighbors and university students between the avenue of Los Angeles and the street full professor Joaquín Casalduero, through the existing alley and Isabel María Jiménez García Street;

The third will be located in Los Angeles Park, which connects the end of Fuente del Oro Street, through the street journalist Huertas Galindo.

For its part, the new staircase will give access between the streets Professor Joaquín Casalduero and the extension of the street painter Luis Tornero.

The works also aim at the integral regeneration of the public spaces of the neighborhood.

To this end, all infrastructures and services will be renewed with innovative criteria of energy efficiency and energy savings, under the criteria of 'Smart Cities'.

Improving drainage and stormwater collection is another important aspect of this project, which will have three new collectors with sufficient capacity and a network of scuppers and grates.

Likewise, sanitation and supply networks, electricity and gas networks, public lighting and communications networks will be renewed.

In addition, these works will improve traffic circulation with the construction of a two-lane roundabout that will connect the medical streets of Antonio Pelegrín Medina, Campuzano and Navarra and the avenue of the Armed Forces and will facilitate access to the university campus.

In the definition of the works the neighbors have actively participated, who throughout the drafting process have been aware of the details and have made their contributions to better adapt to their needs.
