The Earthquake Department requests citizen collaboration to recover a seismic station with scientific data on the failure of Alhama subtracted from a house in Aguaderas (04/01/2017)

It is a mechanism that has no market value with which the monitoring of the microsisicity of the fault Alhama by a team of scientists from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid was being carried out.

The Councilor for Management for the Recovery after the earthquakes in the City of Lorca, Satur Martínez, has requested citizen collaboration to enable the recovery of a seismic station that was subtracted a few days ago from a private house located in the hamlet of Aguaderas.

The Councilor explained that this is one of the 4 stations that was being used by scientists of the Department of Geodynamics, belonging to the Faculty of Geological Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid, with the objective of monitoring the seismic activity of the Failure of Alhama de Murcia, that caused the earthquake of 2011 in our city.

Satur Martínez explained that this monitoring and control station had been located in a farmhouse in the area of Aguaderas, from which it was stolen on the night of last Tuesday, December 26, together with some appliances and household appliances , Possibly confusing it with a computer.

The Earthquake Office has stated that this electronic mechanism has no outlet in the market, since its use is limited to the collection of scientific data related to seismicity.

In any case, it is a great injury to the scientific study of the fault for two reasons: firstly because the device contains stored data of great interest that had not yet been downloaded, and secondly because one of the 4 stations that Currently surround the fault (in particular the closest to Lorca, which was the most important) will be affected to a large extent the accuracy of the location of hypothetical telluric movements.

Satur Martínez has also indicated that the missing devices are part of a research project carried out by several Spanish universities around the seismic activity of the fault Alhama de Murcia in order to know their seismic behavior and contribute to reduce the Risk of earthquakes in the Region of Murcia, detecting which areas of the fault present microsisicity at present.

The Councilor for Management for the Recovery after the Earthquakes has asked any citizen who has any clue as to where this apparatus is located, or has found it, to contact the City Council, Local Police, Civil Guard, National Police , Municipal Emergency Service, or any public body to enable its recovery.
