Pedro Rivera emphasizes that the distinctions 'Europa Nostra' recognize "a social work in which we are all involved for the repair and construction of a new Lorca"

The book 'The recovery of the Cultural Heritage of the city of Lorca' has been presented, which includes all the actions carried out by the administrations and entities since the earthquakes of 2011

The six churches of Lorca restored after the earthquakes of 2011 already display the commemorative plaques of the European Union of Cultural Heritage Awards 'Europa Nostra', which recognize the work of recovery carried out for the valorization of cultural wealth and protection of the Architectural heritage and the environment of Lorca.

This emblem highlights the work developed in the churches of San Patricio, San José, San Mateo, Santiago, Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the Convent of San Francisco by the technical team led by the architect Juan de Dios de la Hoz and the companies Lorquimur and Restauralia, who have executed the works.

The restoration of the six churches is included in the master plan for the recovery of the cultural heritage of Lorca, which reflects the sensitivity of the professionals as well as the efforts of the administrations to confront the conservation of the historical, artistic and cultural heritage of the city.

The Community, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, the City Council of Lorca, the Diocese of Cartagena and the Fundación Paso Azul, as well as other foundations and organizations, participate in this plan.

The regional government has so far allocated more than 19 million euros to the master plan, which "has allowed us to recover and restore more than 90 percent of the assets of cultural interest of the city of Lorca. Invest more than 4.7 million euros to conclude this master plan.

So far, 98 percent of the budget has been implemented and 100 percent of the budget has been committed.

In this way, the master plan has become a national and international benchmark and an example of good practice on how to act in emergency situations affecting cultural heritage.

This award to the recovery of the churches of Lorca is one of the prizes 'Europa Nostra' awarded to Spain this year.

This is the second time that these awards recognize at the international level a project carried out in the Region.

In 2010, the award went to the Roman Theater in Cartagena.

Book on asset recovery

During the day also took place the presentation of the book 'The recovery of the Cultural Heritage of the city of Lorca', a publication edited by the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain (IPCE) which includes all the actions carried out by the various administrations And other public and private entities since the earthquakes that occurred in 2011.

This book summarizes the five years of activity of the Master Plan for the Recovery of the Cultural Heritage of Lorca and brings together in its more than 700 pages detailed information on each monument restored, its background, the development of rehabilitation works and numerous photographs.

The publication is part of the actions foreseen in the master plan, together with the organization of a conclusive technical conference and a traveling exhibition.
