IU-V demands an investigation for the archaeological destruction of the Castle's surroundings (23/03/2017)

Before the complaint made this morning by the "Cultural Association Lorca for its Heritage" on the destruction of countless archaeological remains on the hill of Lorca Castle as a result of the consolidation and access works being carried out in this environment, the Councilor of IU-V in the City of Lorca, Adoración Peñas, has stated that it requires the opening of a thorough investigation to know what has happened, what has been destroyed, who are responsible for that destruction, and how it is possible Knowing that the hill of Lorca Castle is a huge history book, this municipality has allowed itself the luxury of destroying countless pages of it without even giving time to the appropriate teams of archaeologists to carry out their work.

What has happened reminds us a lot of the destruction that implied in his day - in that place - the effort to embed in it a hotel installation that took ahead part of our history and that contaminated forever the skyline of Lorca.

Adoración Peñas affirms that he has had access to the report elaborated by the aforementioned cultural association, and if indeed all that in it works is true, we would be facing a very serious crime against the historical patrimony that can not go unpunished, and that supposes a palmaria violation of the Law of Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia and the Law of Spanish Historical Heritage.

In this sense, we want to know the scope of the project that is being carried out there, the permits that have been given (if any) and why the necessary guarantees have not been observed to preserve the archaeological heritage of a hill from which It is known for sure that it is a huge archaeological field with innumerable historical records.

In fact, says the councilor, the destruction that is reflected in the report reaches relevant elements of the argaric culture, canvases of the medieval wall, and other constructive elements of more recent historical epochs.

The councilor of IU-V maintains that next Monday, taking advantage of the celebration of the Town Hall of Lorca, will formally demand the opening of that investigation.
