El Paso Azul will open the new Cavalry of the Explorers and the renovation of the Egyptian Prophets in a record year for the embroidery workshop (06/04/2017)

The Brotherhood of Labradores, Paso Azul, has announced the premieres for the imminent celebration of the processions of this year 2017. The presentation was attended by the President, José María Miñarro, MASS Director and artistic director, Miguel García Peñarrubia and The also artistic director Joaquín Bastida.

Miñarro said that "we closed a historic year for our workshop, because it has never been embroidered as much as during the last 12 months in which we have had 15 embroiderers who have worked with dedication and commitment to complete the work. Has worked until August and fruit of this effort we face a Holy Week loaded with premieres of great quality.

Of particular note is the creation of a new group of "Explorers sent by Moses to the Promised Land", fundamental cavalry for the Blue Pass since it is the first biblical group to parade.

The previous group dating back to 1992 has been renewed. Between November and March the 5 new mantles of the group have been embroidered, which will be joined to the emblematic mantle of the Celonas de Cayuela, inspired by chapter 13 of the Book of Numbers, where Specify the fruits that the explorers bring to Moses as evidence of having fulfilled the mission of finding the Promised Land.

The aquamarine satin cloak depicts Caleb and Joshua carrying some of the fruits brought.

It is framed in a modernist style ornamentation where dates also appear as a symbol of the fertility of the new land.

The black satin cloak comprises a basket of figs framed with fig leaves and on the top two goldfinches flutter around them.

The goldfinches, metaphorically, are related to the Passion of Christ because they fed on both the fig trees and the grains derived from the thorns whose thorns served to weave the crown of Jesus.

Both robes have been designed and directed by Miguel García Peñarrubia.

The mantle of satin garnet represents Mount Sinai, emblem of ancient Christianity and so rooted in this particular passage of the explorers.

Its ornamentation of clear modernist style mainly comprises the fruit of the grenade and rattles, allusive to the clothes that God entrusts to him to Moses with respect to the clothes of the new priests.

Also, the fruit of the pomegranate is part of those who came to Moses to testify to the greatness of the land found.

The violet-colored cloak shows as a central motif a jar of Jewish origin from which grape clusters sprout.

This iconography is also framed in the discovery of the various fruits found, being the vine fundamental icon of Christianity in the life, passion and death of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Its ornamentation is represented by vine leaves and grapes, with decorative watermarks in a marked modernist style.

Finally, the mantle of green satin which represents in its central motif the discovery of the Promised Land, where the rough desert gives way to an entire garden according to the sacred texts: "... and they told him saying: We arrived at the land to Which thou hast sent to us, which indeed floweth milk and honey: this is the fruit thereof "(Numbers 13: 1-33).

The mantle completes a rich Jewish ornamentation in modernist style.

These three robes have been designed and directed by Joaquín Bastida Gil.

Within the line undertaken under the Presidency of José María Miñarro to renew emblematic groups of Paso Azul, the restoration and adaptation of the new mantles that compose the cavalry of the Egyptian Prophets have been proceeded.

This cavalry needed a new touch, a new way of seeing and processing.

To this end, they have adapted grecas of the same content with the utmost respect and rigor, with a spectacular final result.

This group is joined by the new mantle that carries in its center the Torah, as iconography of Judaism, to complete a cavalry of 7 Amazons.

According to the tradition common to Judaism and Christianity, the Torah involves the totality of the revelation and divine teaching bestowed upon the people of Israel.

Considering the importance of Moses in this process, both denominations sometimes refer to the Torah as the Law of Moses, the Mosaic Law and even the written law of Moses.

This mantle, designed by Miguel García Peñarrubia, has been made in a black satin with an ornamentation appropriate to the art deco style that frames it completely.

The mantle of Bacchus, the work of José López Gimeno that is part of the Cavalry of the Mythological Gods or Triumph of Christianity, has also been restored this year adjusting the work to the international criteria established for interventions in textiles affected by the passage of Time or biodeterioration factors.

But there is a restoration in embroidery that shines with its own light: that of the mantle of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows.

After the approval by the Autonomous Community of the restoration project carried out by Joaquín Bastida, as corresponds to a BIC piece, the restoration of the mantle was carried out between June and October 2016 under the direction of García Peñarrubia.

They invested 2,966 hours of work that have made possible the small deteriorations caused by the passage of time, but respecting the spirit of its creator.

This Friday of Sorrows the mantle will return to shine with the splendor with which Cayuela devised it.

Miñarro, in the name of all the blues, wanted to congratulate "the artistic directors Miguel García Peñarrubia and Joaquín Bastida, all the embroiderers, the workshop chief, Juan Carlos Peñarrubia, the Association of the Virgin of Dolores and all People who have participated in this intense year of work that will allow us to carry out these spectacular and numerous premieres. "

Lastly, from the Blue Pass it has been announced that in the face of the demand of Lorca and visitors, the MASS will be open during all Holy Week.

From the direction of the Museum and from the different Commissions of work an extra effort will be carried out with the aim that the thousands of people who will visit Lorca during these days can know this spectacular exhibition space that will only close the evenings of procession.
