Lorca, the tail of Spain and the EU in number of nurses recommended for every 1,000 inhabitants (11/04/2017)

Sánchez Jódar shows his concern about the lack of public contracting and labor instability in the Nursing sector, and calls for the creation of labor exchanges for each specialty.

The Vice-spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Marisol Sánchez Jódar has expressed concern about the lack of public procurement and labor instability of the health staff of the Murcian Health Service (SMS), and specifically, the Nursing sector.

Sánchez Jódar denounces that the Region of Murcia figures as one of the Autonomous Communities with the lowest ratio of nurses per 1,000 inhabitants.

A situation that also, compared to the national and European average leaves our Region "at the tail end" of the European Union, according to the latest official data published by the National Institute of Statistics and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The latest INE report puts the ratio of nurses per 1,000 inhabitants in the Region of Murcia at 3.99;

That is, more than 2 points below the national average, which stands at 6.12.

In absolute terms, the Region of Murcia has 5,848 nurses, of whom, proportionally, 676 would exercise in the municipalities that make up the health area III.

According to these data, and taking into account the national average, the Region of Murcia and, therefore, Lorca and other municipalities in health area III would correspond to "almost double" the number of nurses with present.

Based on the latest published data, only in the municipalities of health area III, it would be necessary to hire 364 new nurses to reach the national average.

However, the situation in the national context, he points out, is also not encouraging, since the WHO itself, through the latest report World Health Statistics, is strong in denouncing that in Spain "nurses are missing."

In fact, they recommend 2-3 doctors per 1000 inhabitants, and up to 3 nurses per doctor, so he insists "all indicators result in the" alarming shortage "of these professionals.

According to Sánchez Jódar, this situation explains the "shameful" waiting lists that the Region of Murcia, and especially Lorca, has dragged for years.

He insists on the need to hire new staff as the "only way" to combat waiting times.

However, it denounces that the Regional Government "still does not allocate a single cent" to the recruitment of health personnel.

In fact, of the recent announcement for the recruitment of up to 50 health professionals in Lorca "nothing is known" because "it is not accompanied by any specific budget line".

He adds that it does not help the submission of a City Council of Lorca, and specifically its Department of Health, "unable to demand the Regional Government to implement a 'plan of shock' to combat waiting lists," as you remember Was approved in Plenary, at the initiative of the Socialist Group and that the PP was in charge of leaving "in paper".

He denounces that the Popular Party continues to promote "deterioration and precariousness" in this sector of professionals.

In fact, during the last years the calls for public employment in the sector remain "insufficient" (only 145 places of Nursing in the Region in the last call) and also says "opens the door" for hundreds of professionals continue to be That go abroad "where they are sued for their high qualification."

For all this, and to provide dignity to the nurses sector, and to improve the quality of care for users of healthcare, from the PSOE insist once again on the need to expand the number of places for the next public calls , While calling for the creation of job boards for each specialty.
