91 Roma people at risk of social exclusion benefit from two workshops aimed at improving employability by the Gypsy Secretariat (24/04/2017)

The programs, which have the collaboration of the City of Lorca and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, are financed by the IMAS and the "La Caixa" Social Work.

One is for 51 young people under 30;

And another 40 people from neighborhoods such as Santa Maria, San Pedro, San Cristóbal and Cañada Morales, aged between 16 and 64

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the Councilor for Family and Equal Opportunities of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Violante Tomás, visited this morning the workshops carried out by the Fundación Secretariado Gitano in Lorca.

These are developed throughout the week in different municipal spaces and are broad actions, full of content and have become a useful tool for the participants, who find in each program an open door to training and employability.

In Lorca live almost 3,900 Roma people with high levels of exclusion.

It is a collective that in general, and in view of the data reflected, suffers from school failure, high illiteracy, low work experience and low professional qualifications.

This is compounded by the poor development of basic social skills and high unemployment rates caused by families with precarious economic status.

Due to these problems, the Fundación Secretariado Gitano has been working since 2015 in our municipality under the Terniben Lorca program.

It has two different programs.

One is aimed at improving employability for young people under 30 years of age at risk or social exclusion.

Since 2016, with the collaboration of the Obra Social La Caixa, another program was launched to improve the employability of Roma people regardless of their age.

The first one is called "Employability Improvement Program for young people in situation or risk of social exclusion", and has the collaboration of the Instituto Murciano de Acción Social (IMAS).

The funding is provided by the Autonomous Community and the European Social Fund.

The aim of the project is to improve the employability of 51 young people between the ages of 16 and 29 who have no occupation outside the education system, have emancipated or reside in homes where they are excluded.

The program is organized around various training actions:

Certificate of professionalism of Level 1 of "Auxiliary activities of commerce" for 15 participants.

Training package: "Personal competences and skills for employment" of 60 hours, "16-hour" Equality of Treatment, Gender and Opportunities "16-hour Equality of Employment, and 60-hour training module Of "Customer Service" that begins today.

There are two other workshops "Personal image directed to the search of employment" and "Workshop of interviews", for 20 participants each.

All participants will undertake a 10-hour training in "equal treatment, gender and opportunities".

At the same time the participants will carry out socio-labor itineraries as well as "Active Search for Employment" techniques.

The program developed in 2015-16 involved 51 people;

Of them, 11 currently have long-term contracts, 3 have joined the education system and 33 have continued in the current system.

The corresponding to 2016-17 is made up of 58 people, of whom 51 are active participants.

8 participants have been incorporated into mixed employment programs, 2 have been hired in public employment, 3 have achieved a job placement in Holy Week and 2 have completed extra occupational training.

The other program developed is named "Improvement of employability for Roma people in the municipality of Lorca".

It is funded by the "La Caixa" Welfare Projects and is intended for Roma people in a situation of social exclusion in order to improve their level of employability with the implementation of personalized social and labor insertion itineraries increasing the probability of success in achieving and maintaining Of a job.

The objective is achieved through 3 parallel and complementary paths: professionals, training and development of competence.

The target is 40 people from neighborhoods such as Santa Maria, San Pedro, San Cristóbal and Cañada Morales, aged between 16 and 64 years.

This program is held at the Local Development Center from Monday to Wednesday and at the Civic Center in San Diego on Thursdays and Fridays and will run from November 15, 2016 to September 30, 2017. Students will improve their employability, Basic skills and professional skills and will promote their incorporation in the workplace.

The mayor of Lorca stressed that "from the City Council we have to congratulate the Foundation of Gypsy Secretariat for how they develop these actions so beneficial to people at risk of social exclusion. Thanks to the commitment of the Regional Government, entities such as La Caixa and collaboration The Consistory are carrying out these successful programs that open wide the doors of the labor market to dozens of Gypsy people.
