IU-Verdes denounces that the Rajoy Government renewables auction marginalizes Lorca producers of solar energy (09/05/2017)

The Councilor for this training, Gloria Martín, urges the City Council and the regional government to push for "technologically specific quotas or auctions" to support the 2,000 neighbors who generate solar energy in the municipality and avoid the collapse of the plant ' Lorca Solar 'that the PP linked to the creation of 3,000 jobs

The Councilor of United Left Greens, Gloria Martín, lamented the lack of involvement of the City of Lorca to dissuade the Executive of Rajoy from his commitment to design a renewable auction that only serves the "lowest bid price."

In practice, this translates into the "expulsion" of the bidding of producers of solar and biomass energy, which can not compete with wind power, which lacks a time limit for its operation.

The auction, which will tender incentives for a power of up to 3,000 megawatts (MW) to be held next June, will hurt photovoltaic, solar thermal and biomass energy companies located in Lorca, a municipality that does not have No wind farm.

Martín recalled that, in Lorca, the government measure will marginalize 2,000 small producers of solar energy since, in addition, the Executive of Rajoy has "tripled" the financial guarantees to present, "which benefits the monopoly of large electric, which They enjoy an important financial muscle. "

The mayor of IU-Verdes explained that this measure also endangers 'Lorca Solar', the photovoltaic power station that the Andaltia business group promotes in the Highlands of Lorca.

"We are concerned that the PP linked to this project, stuck for a decade, the creation of 3,000 jobs," Martín said.

For all this, the mayor of IU-Verdes has demanded that both the Consistory and the Autonomous Government of Fernando López Miras (who has not even established a council of Industry or Energy), claim "quotas" or the holding of "Technologically specific" auctions, as do Germany, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal or the United Kingdom.

In that sense, the Councilor of IU-Greens asks the municipal and autonomous administrations to demand the adoption of mechanisms that guarantee the principle of "technological neutrality" established by the Ministry of Industry itself, so as to allow different renewable technologies Compete "on equal terms".

"It does not make sense that in one of the regions with more hours of insolation in Spain, the public authorities do not bet on cheap, inexhaustible and radically more democratic energy," Martín lamented.

In this regard, he criticized the lack of public aid to develop an innovative sector that provides "clean energy that makes us independent of fossil fuels and provides solutions to energy poverty, unemployment, lack of water, the technological deficit, The depopulation of the rural environment or the effects of climate change. "

Quite the contrary, said the mayor, "the PP prefers to remain abandoned to its fate to solar energy while legislating in favor of the lobby of large electric and tools, such as this auction, to benefit exclusively."

In the same vein, he recalled that, following the opinion of the Court of Arbitration of the World Bank, Spain will have to pay 128 million euros for the cuts to the remuneration of renewable energy, included in the electricity reform of 2013. This is the The first international arbitration award that the Government of Spain loses, "committed to attacking renewables through continuous cuts instead of favoring their full development and becoming a leading country in that sector," concluded Martin.
