21 athletes will travel uninterruptedly and by relay for five days the 1,143 kilometers separating Lorca from Santiago de Compostela (05/06/2017)

From 8 to 13 June, the "Lorca - Santiago Running Non Stop" challenge will promote the "Algar Route" and the "Jubilee Year of Caravaca de la Cruz" throughout Spain.

The test is organized by the Association Lorca Santiago and has the collaboration of the City of Lorca and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia

The Councilor for Sports of the City of Lorca, Juan Miguel Bayonas together with the Councilor for Economy and Finance, Juan Francisco Martínez, the president of the Association Lorca-Santiago, José Antonio González, and the Director General of the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia , Manuel Fernández-Delgado, presented this morning the challenge 'Lorca-Santiago Running Non Stop', which will take place between 8 and 13 June.

During these 5 days, 20 runners will individually perform each day between 15 and 20 km at a rate of not less than 10 km average hour, to complete the 1,143 kilometers of the Way of Santiago that separate the church of Santiago from our city of Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, with the intention of making known the "Route of the Argar" and the "Jubilee Year of Caravaca de la Cruz".

It should be noted that since 2015, this route has been recognized by the Federation of Friends of the Camino de Santiago as one of the homologated pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, forming part of the maps of the National Geographic Institute.

The riders will always be accompanied by a cyclist who will guide you on the tour and will be able to attend to the needs they may have at any time.

In addition, they will carry a GPS locator that will allow to continue, through the web www.lorcasantiago.com, where the participant is at any moment.

Also, the witness who will be relieving the athletes will be a piece of canvas recovered from the debris of the church of Santiago de Lorca after the earthquakes of 2011 and a Cross of Caravaca that will deliver on arrival to this "holy city" ;

Both will be offered to the Apostle James upon his arrival.

In total 7 cyclists will form this assistance team and guide and 4 will compose the organization team

The start of the race is scheduled for this Thursday, June 8, at 16:00 from the Church of Santiago de Lorca and will end next Tuesday, June 13 at 10:00 in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

It should be remembered that this is a non-stop test in an individual way, so that always, during the 24 hours there will be a race participant, along the 76 stages distributed in the five days that the test will last.

This challenge will also have a beneficial character since from the Lorca-Santiago Association, on the proposal of the solidarity team Team #retoyosipuedo, they will allocate all the proceeds to the Association of Multiple Sclerosis AEMA III.

Therefore, from the organization have encouraged Lorca society to collaborate with this cause.

In the same will be promoted throughout the national geography tourist brands "Lorca, bordamos" and "Costa Cálida Region of Murcia", as well as the "Jubilee Year 2017 Caravaca de la Cruz".

The Regional Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, hopes that this initiative will help strengthen the region's link with Santiago de Compostela, something that has already taken important steps in the past legislature with the launching of the Jubilee Year Of Caravaca and with the Way of the Cross, and that is ratified with initiatives like those presented today.

In addition, the action adds to the regional religious offer which articulates different routes and experiences based on faith, spirituality and heritage, and which makes the Region a unique thematic area and a leading destination in religious tourism to National and international level.

The Lorca-Santiago Association is a sports-cultural non-profit club whose main purpose is the creation, marking, documentation and maintenance of a new Jacobean route that runs between Lorca and Santiago de Compostela, which we call "Ruta del Argar" , Besides promoting the sport in mountain, organizing pilgrimages, routes of hiking and of bicycle by mountain;

The club currently has 250 associates and is an active collaborator with different institutions from all areas of Lorca society.
