The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, received this morning in the City Hall the children participating in the program "Holidays in Peace" organized by the Association of Friends of the Saharawi people presided over by Antonio García Ros.

Specifically 10 children between 8 and 12 years old participate in the initiative that was recovered last year.

Participants arrived on June 26 and will accompany us until the end of August.

Gil has wanted to "welcome our young visitors who throughout the summer will enjoy the hospitality that characterizes Lorca and Lorca. I would like to congratulate the Association of Friends of the Saharawi People for the effort and commitment that each year We show our solidarity as a city and strengthen the bonds that unite us to these young people and to the Sahara, because it is necessary to remember that Lorca is twinned with Wilaya El Aaiún. But I especially want to congratulate the families that make this initiative so beautiful and generous and That says so much of our municipality, because they are the ones who put everything on their side so that Saharawi children can enjoy this experience. "

Under the "Holidays in Peace" program, Saharawi children will receive a comprehensive medical examination, including vaccination, dental, eye and hearing screening of all children.

They will also be offered a balanced diet during the summer months, helping them to cope with the healthier winter, a welcoming and receptive environment to different cultures, the opportunity to avoid the more than 50 degrees Celsius of the camps during the months of Summer and improve their mastery of Spanish, which is the first foreign language in the curricula of the Saharawi schools.

There will also be awareness-raising activities on the problems of the Saharawi people.

The City Council of Lorca and the NGO Friends of the Saharawi people signed an agreement last June whereby the Consistory contributes € 6,000 to the "Holiday in Peace" initiative to finance the transfer of young participants from North Africa to Lorca.

In addition to this initiative, Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui collaborates with the camps through the donation and delivery of clothing and footwear for refugees in Tindouf.
