The Aljibe of the Espaldón of the Castle of Lorca will host during September and October the exhibition "Erensya 2015: Human Landscape" given by the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain (01/09/2017)

It is a research project on the life of the descendants of the families who lived in the 19 cities belonging to the Spanish Network of Judería after its expulsion in 1492. It is one of the activities that will be carried out in Lorca on the occasion of the European Day of Jewish Culture

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, inaugurated this morning the exhibition "Erensya 2015: Human Landscape", a research project on the lives of the descendants of the families who lived in the cities of the Spanish Network of Judería after their expulsion in 1492, and that can be visited in the Aljibe of the Back of the Castle of Lorca during the month of September and October.

Fulgencio Gil said that "this itinerant exhibition has the objective of encouraging genealogical research in order to discover the life stories of families who were expelled from the peninsula and who were reborn in other places, in the Aljibe del Espaldón. installed 19 screens showing the stories of Jews who lived in cities belonging to the Net. These are: Ávila, Barcelona, ​​Cáceres, Calahorra, Cordoba, Estrella Lizarra, Hervás, Jaén, León Lucena, Monforte, Oviedo, Palma , Plasencia, Ribadavia, Segovia, Tarazona, Toledo and Tudela.

The Mayor of Lorca added that "it is ultimately a very complete bibliographical collection, since many publications, works, articles and even recent electronic information have been studied. In addition, the exhibition has already covered other points of geography Spain, Spain, Israel and France. It should be noted that it has been donated by the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain for the celebration in our city, the 2 and 3 September, the European Day of Jewish Culture, and this year has as its theme the Diaspora, understanding as such the dispersion of Jews and their settlement in other parts of the world.

Gil added that "the fact that we have been given this exhibition is a very important fact for our city, since we can better understand and get an idea of ​​what was the life of the Jews who lived in the Middle Ages in the neighborhood In this sense, it is important to remember that many connections between the city and the Jewish culture and to show them to the citizens and visitors is the objective of the participation in this activity in which 30 European countries give to know the cultural and historical legacy of the Jewish people.It is worth mentioning that Lorca celebrates these days with 19 cities of the Jewish Network of Spain to know the Jewish remains of Sepharad.

In addition, during this weekend Lorca and visitors will be able to enjoy numerous tourist and cultural initiatives that will be carried out both in the Castle and in the city, and that are part of the program of activities that has been prepared to celebrate the European Day of Jewish Culture.

In the Fortress of the Sun there are guided tours to know the archaeological park of the Castle and the Synagogue.

You can also visit the Torre Alfonsina, from where you can admire the wonderful views of the city.

For the family audience there will be a theatrical visit "The keys of Esther", and the smaller ones will be able to realize a workshop in which they will know the sense of the Diaspora.

In the city you can enjoy "Lorca Sefardí: Ayer y Hoy", a guided tour in which through the Municipal Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Embroideries of Paso Blanco and the Museum of Embroideries of Paso Azul, you will be able to know in depth the relations with the Sephardic Lorca of the past and their footprints in the present.

You will be able to see the archaeological remains found in the excavations of the Lorca Jewry and its synagogue, and both museums will be able to know the close relationship between some Biblical passages Jewish and the images represented in the mantles embroidered in silk and gold with the technique of embroidery lorquino , which is currently proposed to achieve the declaration of Intangible Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
