Agriculture invests more than 600,000 euros in renewable energy in the community of Lorca (11/09/2017)

The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has carried out an initiative on renewable energy in the facilities of the irrigation community of Lorca, located in Huerto Chico, to which have been allocated 654.221 euros.

The action has consisted in the installation of a novel system of photovoltaic power generation, on floats, in a raft of regulation of the mentioned community of irrigators, in order to supply to the pumping station Huerto Chico.

This investment allows to reduce energy costs and emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

In addition, the evaporation of the water stored in the raft and the proliferation of algae decreases.

The system has a total installed capacity of 392 kWp and will avoid, throughout its useful life, the emission of 3,200 tonnes of CO2 equivalent to the atmosphere.

The investment has been financed by the Community, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Francisco Jodar, who inaugurated the facilities today, said that "these actions are a sign of the commitment of the regional government by irrigation communities in the Region, to have more efficient systems and better adapted. "

"We have the most modern irrigation and pointers, and are an example to follow at an international level," said the head of Water.

The actions, which have had a term of execution of three months, are framed in the 'Plan Regadios Inteligentes'.

Horizonte 2023 ', which contemplates investments for a total of 80 million euros, of which the public initiative will contribute about 39 million euros.

Smart irrigation

Among the objectives pursued by the Ministry with this plan is the improvement of the efficiency of irrigation systems and water saving, as well as the reduction of losses in transport and distribution networks.

It also focuses on improving the energy efficiency of irrigation infrastructures, generating renewable energy for their supply, and increasing capacity for flow regulation and storage by building rafts.

Likewise, the plan is aimed at the use of purified urban waste water, as well as the incorporation of technologies for the management of irrigated areas and the improvement of the environment.
