IU-Greens: Reduced mobility in Lorca is still a pending subject despite the PMUS (22/09/2017)

Adoración Peñas, councilor of the municipal group of IU-Verdes has denounced the lack of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility in the vicinity and environment near the main door of the fairgrounds, except for an existing square fixed on the façade near a Center of Physiotherapy and another reserved for inside a fenced and bounded zone (next to red cross, firemen etc.) but of impossible access to the being is closed with fences.

The mayor says that this urban environment does not only house the fair of the city, but it is a space in which events of another type, such as SEPOR, horse fair, choirs and dances, etc., as well as the market weekly, so that it is inconceivable that, at this point, a number of fixed parking spaces for persons with disabilities and / or reduced mobility have not been foreseen in the area.

Peñas, who has been actively involved in the planning and development of the PMUS (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan) from the beginning to the presentation of the plan, says he does not understand how these things happen after the economic effort that the city council has made for the elaboration of a Plan that, if applied correctly, could mean a significant change in the municipality.

From IU-Verdes they show that the lack of coordination between the different councils involved is evident and require those responsible for town planning, mobility and citizen security to establish the coordination mechanisms necessary to create in the environment of the orchard the wheel besides, will soon have the infrastructure of the auditorium) the number of places sufficient and adequate to serve the group of people with disabilities and reduced mobility.

Peñas has echoed the claims of associations working to improve the living conditions of people with disabilities as ANDADE (Association of National Amputee of Spain) and states that the fact of not having adequate parking can mean for such people a handicap and problem that can lead to consider not to attend and participate as any other citizen of the fair and parties of Lorca.

In fact, remember that these requests have already been requested by other associations and entities in 2012 and have been ignored by the government team.

Likewise, among the claims and suggestions raised by the affected groups is that a zone is delocated for the discharge of people, especially in cases where the member with reduced mobility is transported and needs adequate time and space to get out of the vehicle without conditioning the rest of the traffic nor the own security of the citizen with disability.

Therefore, since none of the temporary car parks and disinfection facilities qualify for the minimum conditions of accessibility or even have areas reserved for reduced mobility, from IU-Verdes requires the local administration to fulfill its obligation to ensure the improvement of accessibility for people with disabilities, in response to the requests made by ANDADE and which IU-Verdes supports.
