The PSOE again calls for solutions to the flood risk that keeps the population of the orchard of Lorca in vilo (02/10/2017)

The socialists again demand the PP in Lorca that requires the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura and the regional government to plan and execute once the actions contemplated in the Plan of Defense Against Avenues in the Upper Basin of Guadalentín to combat the risk of flood that five years after the catastrophic Riada of San Wenceslao continues maintaining in vilo to the population that resides in the deputations of the orchard.

In addition, it calls for a comprehensive plan of actions to curb desertification with proper management of the territory.

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, David Romera, has asked the PP Government team in Lorca on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the San Wenceslao Riada, to demand the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura and the regional government " the planning and execution of what is foreseen in the Plan of Defense Against Avenues in the Upper Guadalentín Basin to give a response to the population that lives in the orchard of Lorca and that remains in vilo since the catastrophic flood of 28 of September 2012 ".

Romera believes that "it is regrettable that five years after that tragedy occurred, no draft measures were put in place to reduce the risk of flooding", which extends over an important part of the Lorca orchard and the prelitoral depression since Almendricos to Torrecilla and Campillo, where more than 10,000 Lorca and 3,000 lumbrerenses reside.

"They have not even been able to start the works for the construction of the promised viaduct on the Águilas highway over the Rambla de Biznaga riverbed to prevent it from making a barrier or restoring this historic channel," which shows a "total lack of sensitivity on the part of the administrations governed by the PP to give definitive solution to a complex problem that affects many people that whenever it rains with intensity, looks to the sky with concern to be completely unprotected against hypothetical floods."

The passivity and indifference shown by both the Confederation and the Autonomous Community "are incomprehensible by not providing any solution in this regard."

Finally, the Socialist mayor described these measures, which pass inexcusably, and in order of priority, by:

Finalize the current Aviation Defense Plan in the Guadalentín High Basin and more specifically in the sub-basins of the Rambla de la Torrecilla, Béjar, Nogalte and Vilerda, where it is planned to construct a number of floodplain dams, and restore historical channels in the sections where there is a greater risk or they have disappeared.

The viaduct of the Águilas highway over the Rambla de Biznaga must also be run.

Carry out the thorough and periodic cleaning of the Guadalentín river as well as the ramblas and barranqueras that are tributarias (rambla Salada, the Seventeen Arches, the Rose, Caravaca, etc.), as well as other branches that are important for the flows that can generate and pass through densely populated sectors (Torrecilla, Béjar, Biznaga or Ramonete).

Avoid desertification of the land as a result of erosion.

The necessary actions are the application of Forest Replenishment Plans in those basins that lack tree plant mass, as well as an adequate correction of slopes and the placement of dams in the most conflictive channels.

Carry out a Population Awareness Program against Flood Risk so that the residents of Lorca know how to act during and after an episode of torrential rains with the generation of possible floods and know the causes and procedures that trigger them , especially among the school-age population.
