IU-V requires intelligence and efficiency in the management of publicly owned properties in Lorca (23/10/2017)

Alternatives to the use of the House of Corregidor (Courts) and the old Historic Archive located in the Pósito

Adoración Peñas, councilor of IU-Verdes de Lorca, has assured that the former police station, the Agrarian Chamber of the Corredera, the Pósito in which has been located for years the Historical Archive of the City and, soon, the House of Corregidor that for years has been the main venue of the courts of Lorca, or are in most cases or, in some case, will be in a very short time closed, deteriorating and not knowing what to do with them.

It is also a matter of buildings that are mainly part of the local historical heritage and, in the opinion of the councilor of IU-Greens, Adoración Peñas, it is inconceivable that the local government of Lorca is not proposing alternatives to use these spaces.

Moreover, when there are councils and services that are spending significant sums of public money in renting real estate, such is the case of the current Tourist Office of Lorca located in a corner of the Plaza of Spain, or the building used by the joint venture Water of Lorca in the street Lope Gisbert.

Adoración Peñas affirms that it will demand to the Ayuntamiento an alternative of use to the House of the Corregidor before it closes definitively once finished the works of the new Palace of Justice in the street Selgas.

It is a perfect place to locate the dependencies of the Department of Tourism, for a Museum of the City, for a center that collects and makes visitable the local pictorial and sculptural heritage, for a Museum of local Anthropology or for what is deemed appropriate.

Anything but lock the lock to this historic building and let it deteriorate to the final ruin.

We can not afford as a town another closed property more when public money is wasted in rentals and spaces are still needed for the location of services and historically promised and forgotten demands, such as the so-called Artisan Quarter that was talked about many years ago, or the School of Plastic Arts.

The mayor of IU-V wants to raise this issue in the Town Hall Plenary and demand more intelligence and efficiency from local government in the use of public resources and public property whether or not they are locally owned.

To this end, it will urge the elaboration of a technical report that lists and relates the disused public buildings or that they will be in the short or medium term of time and offer alternatives of use to them.
