IU demands that the Ayuntamiento submits allegations to the project of the solar plant of Puerto Lumbreras (24/10/2017)

According to Gloria Martín, the plant, which will not finally be built in Lorca despite the promises of the PP, not only will not report any direct benefit to the municipality, but the airline for the evacuation of electricity, will cross Lorca soil, generating a important affection in the population and the Environment

The councilor of United Left Greens, Gloria Martín, has denounced a new "scam" of the PP local government to the citizens of Lorca, in relation to the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant of 400 megawatts initially projected in the hamlet of Almendricos and that, finally, will materialize in the neighboring municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.

Martin recalled that the former mayor of the PP, Francisco Jodar, announced in 2015 that action that will require an investment of EUR 238 million reported that the promoters were "ready" to be granted administrative authorization and that, immediately after, the Lorca City Council would grant the works license.

According to Jódar, this was one of the "largest plants in the world", which, together with Andaltia, planned in the highlands announced since 2011 without having begun work six years later "would generate wealth" "would create 2,000 jobs of work "and will turn Lorca into" a pole of production of photovoltaic solar energy ".

"The PP has been cajoling Lorca with fanciful projects like the world's largest solar megaplane or logistical centers of Chinese business, tourism and leisure, linked to multi-million dollar investments and the creation of thousands of jobs," said Martin, who recalled that "after a decade of film management, they are just smoke."

Regarding the plant of the company Desarrollos Fotovoltaicos Carril 400, which will be built in Puerto Lumbreras, this will not only not report any direct benefit to the municipality, but the aerial line of evacuation of the electrical energy obtained from the plant, it will cross lorquino soil, generating an important condition in the population of the districts of La Escarihuela and La Campana-Pozo Higuera.

The mayor of IU-Verdes highlighted numerous scientific reports, including those elaborated by the World Health Organization (WHO), linking the Very High Voltage Lines (LAMAT) with a drastic increase in childhood leukemia, and noted that those that will serve this plant "will fly to scarce 400 meters of population nuclei".

From the environmental point of view, Martín recalled that the line, which is almost 18 kilometers long, will also fly over European protected areas of the Natura 2000 network. Specifically, the plant will be bordered by the West with the Limit of Place of Community Interest (LIC) Cabezo de la Jara and Rambla de Nogalte;

in its southeastern limit will do so with the LIC Sierra de Enmedio.

The High Voltage Airline will be located 130 meters from the LIC 'Sierra de Almenara', and 250 of the Special Protection Areas of the Sierra, Moreras and Cabo Cope.

Martín recalled that these spaces are intended to ensure the long-term survival of protected species and habitat types in Europe, contributing to halting the loss of biodiversity.

The Natura 2000 Network is, in fact, the main instrument for nature conservation in the European Union which, in this case, is threatened by a project that intends to install in its protection spaces towers of more than 70 meters in height each 400 meters.

The plant would also be constructed in the vicinity of Places and Points of Geological Interest contemplated in the General Plan of Lorca, and within the Zone of High Risk of Fire "Torrecilla".

For all of this, Martín has urged the Lorca Consistory to submit allegations to the project, which has a deadline of 30 days to do so, for which IU-Greens will present a motion of urgency to the next Municipal Plenary.
