City council, associations and business organizations come together to make Lorca a better city for their elders (13/11/2017)

The University Campus has hosted this morning an informative conference whose objective has been to present the project "Lorca, Friendly City with the Elderly" to which the Lorca Consistory belongs since 2016, and in which the Poncemar Foundation and the Chair of Gerontology participate

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, inaugurated this morning the information days "Lorca, Friendly City with the Elderly", whose objective has been to present to all the groups of the city the project that since 2016 belongs and has been in march the Lorca Consistory, and in which participates the Poncemar Foundation and the Chair of Gerontology, to improve the lives of the elderly in our municipality. They have been held in the Assembly Hall of the University Campus and attended by representatives of the boards directives of the mayor clubs of the municipality, Ceclor, Chamber of Commerce and personnel of the public administrations, as well as the General Director of the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities of the CARM, Ana Guijarro.

The objective of this conference is to present to all the groups in the city the project that since 2016 belongs and has been launched by the City Council, and in which the Poncemar Foundation and the Chair of Gerontology, to improve the lives of the elderly. of our municipality.

Lorca could not be less than a friendly city with these people who contribute so much to society.

According to the World Health Organization, a "Friendly City with the Elderly" is one in which the policies, services and structures, as well as the physical and social environment, are designed to support and make the older person remain active. say, that you live safely, enjoy good health and participate in daily life.

Fulgencio Gil said that "in the times we live, the welfare of the elderly must be a priority for the entire society, so administrations are the first we have to get to work so that the change of model is a reality. Lorca is the example, because in the activities developed by the Department of the Mayor or by clubs or associations of neighborhoods and districts we find that its participants are dynamic, participatory, who enjoy taking the initiative and are an example of commitment and cooperation.

The Mayor of Lorca added that "our municipal district has shown that it works for its elders and that the activities and initiatives they demand are offered, but we believe it is convenient to go one step further and consolidate ourselves as a Friendly City with the Elderly. The City Council takes on the challenge and we are committed to the goals and objectives that this implies.We are willing to promote policies, services and structures, as well as the relevant physical and social environment to ensure that our seniors remain active, impacting on their living with security , enjoy good health and actively participate in daily life. "

Gil has indicated that "what we intend to achieve with the realization of these conferences is to generate processes of community participation in which local agents are involved, introduce changes in the different areas of competence of the municipality in order to improve the quality of life of citizens and make the most of all the potential that older people have, taking into account at all times their needs, perceptions and opinions, for which purpose, interviews will be conducted with the elderly in order to identify the positive and negative aspects of the city, being themselves who contribute their experiences, give suggestions for change and participate in the implementation of improvement projects. "
