IU-Greens denounces chaos and lack of means to assist those affected by the return of earthquake aid (12/01/2018)

The councilors of IU-Greens, Pedro Sosa and Gloria Martin, recriminate the mayor, Fulgencio Gil, who has acknowledged that there are "prescribed aids", that does not forcefully claim the CARM that these files are filed in compliance with the Law

Izquierda Unida-Verdes Lorca has demanded that the local government team of the PP put at the disposal of those affected by the return of the aid of the CARM for earthquakes "all technical resources that are necessary" to advise these neighbors.

Councilwoman Gloria Martin described as "false" the statements of the mayor, Fulgencio Gil, in which he says that the City has put all the technical and legal means to deal with those affected.

"You only need to go around the Office of the Earthquake to see that they are absolutely overwhelmed and that chaos reigns there," said Martín.

The mayor of IU-Greens explained that those affected are forced to stand in line outside from seven in the morning to get a number and that many "have to go home, day after day, without being attended to by lack of personnel in said office. "

There are affected people who have been trying to get advice since last Friday.

"Madrugan, they take a number and, after waiting, they tell them that they can not be attended because who should receive them is in a meeting or attending other matters," he said.

Martín also alluded to the public recognition that the mayor has made about the existence of "prescribed aids", something that IU-Verdes has been denouncing since last June.

"If you know, what is it that is not claiming to the CARM that these files are filed in compliance with the law," he asked.

The councilor of IU-Greens explained that her political training has already helped 226 families to write allegations against the requirements of the CARM to return the aid granted almost seven years ago to deal with the rehabilitation of their homes, damaged by earthquakes May 2011. "Despite the snares of the PP, in IU we have the advice of our legal office, formed by legal experts, and also with the external supervision of a lawyer specialized in administrative litigation," as Those affected know that they have accompanied us in these consultations, "said Martín.

The mayor assured that they feel "emotionally overwhelmed" by the different casuistry of those affected.

"We try to serve them with the greatest sensitivity because we are from families that must process processes related to their parents, deceased, even unemployed neighbors and without resources to deal with unfair and untimely returns," he explained.

"There are affected elderly who have had to be treated for anxiety crisis when they received the letters, others collapsed in our office to the impotence of not knowing how to deal with these requirements," Martin added.

For this reason, the United Left demands that the political solution agreed upon at the September Plenary be applied immediately, in which a motion for such training was approved unanimously in this regard.

"The decree that regulates the aid says that these can be justified with technical reports where it is corroborated that the repair works have been carried out," explained the spokesman of the Municipal Group of IU-Greens, Pedro Sosa.

In addition, "we know that the officials of the CARM are wishing that the politicians give them instructions so that they can begin to apply this measure," he assured, and then asked "What do the mayor and the regional president, both Lorca expect? , to solve this disaster? "

In this regard, Sosa recalled that after the earthquakes, regional and local leaders of the PP, such as Valcarcel or former mayor Francisco Jódar, "promised gold and mortage to the victims" and then "have given the scared" leaving successors "nominated to finger" that have not been able to amend the chaotic management relative to the aids.

Sosa also recalled that while the CARM demands the return of aid "still owes more than one million euros to Lorca in rental concepts."

In that sense, Sosa and Martín consider this delay "indecent" while the CARM requires those affected to return the subsidies with late payment interest of 3.75% plus the 25% surcharge established by law.

"They have converted a public aid into a loan with more difficulties to repay than if those affected had requested a loan from their bank," Sosa and Martín concluded.
