The City Council installs more than 200 new recycling containers in different parts of the municipality to facilitate the selective collection of household waste (18/01/2018)

During 2017 the recycling figures in our city have continued to grow.

The collection of glass in green containers for recycling has broken its historical record reaching an amount of 888,640 kilos;

while the collection of light containers is already in figures close to half a million kilos at the end of 2017 with 479,040 kilos.

On the other hand, paper and cardboard increased by 1.11% more to achieve 1,232,700 kilos per year

The CEO of Limusa, Juan Francisco Martínez, supervised this morning the installation of the new recycling containers that is being carried out by this municipal company in the city and that is part of a plan to renovate street furniture, the which also includes litter bins and solid urban waste containers (RSU).

Juan Francisco Martínez explained that "Limusa has recently added 205 new recycling bins to its urban park in order to bring citizens closer to the availability of capacity to recycle the citizen, which is being done by increasing units and facilitating the action deposit in the igloo thanks to a larger opening ".

The CEO of Limusa has indicated that "in particular, there are 85 new igloo-type units for the selective collection of household waste, the most valuable fraction that occupies the largest volume in any household's waste bin. 20 units for the citizen deposit of light containers, the yellow ones, and 65 green ones for the glass, jars and bottles, which have been installed mostly in districts.These circular units, of 2,500 liters capacity, have a mouth of rectangular load of 40x20 centimeters in the case of yellows and circular in the one of the green ones.They are manufactured in linear polystyrene of high density rotomolded and additive with protection for ultraviolet rays, and are completely recyclable after their useful life. at the beginning of 2017, another 120 selective containers were installed: 75 yellow, 30 blue and 15 green bells ".

Martinez, on the other hand, has indicated that "during 2017 the recycling figures in our city have continued to grow, with an amount of 888,640 kilos, the deposit of jars and glass bottles in green containers for recycling has broken its record historical, assuming the highest figure since this residue began to recover from Lorca homes 25 years ago It has taken 8 years to beat the previous mark of 875,210 kilos, which dates from 2009. This data at the end of the year represents an increase in 6.87% with respect to the previous period, 2016, which closed with 831.5 tons of glass, and citizens have contributed an average of close to 10 kilos per inhabitant per year to the green igloo. "

The CEO of Limusa added that "for its part, the collection of light packaging in the municipality of Lorca is already in figures close to half a million kilos, to close 2017 with 479.040 kilos, representing an increase over last year of 4%, a percentage that has remained in the monthly series for practically the entire year, while the other selective collection with containers on the public highway, that of paper and cardboard, remains at the 2016 values, although also positive , by increasing 1.11% to achieve 1,232,700 kilos per year.This global trend would mean the greater awareness reached so far by Lorca when it comes to recycling.

Juan Francisco Martinez has stressed that "in particular, the public contribution of plastic containers, cans and briks to the highest selective container has occurred in December with 44,220 kilos, which is the highest monthly figure since they have Disaggregated data As a curiosity, the periods of lowest citizen contribution to the container in 2017 coincided with the supposedly higher consumption dates, the month of April with Easter and September with the Fair and Fiestas, with all this, even the average per inhabitant and year in Lorca is far from both the regional contribution and the national ".
